Blimey! I wasn't blaming SKY just pointing out that the reasons for the reduced offer is due to their commitment to the EPL. That isn't my obsession, or opinion. That is literally the reason SKY gave.
I'm beginning to think that the written word is getting pretty pointless at the moment...

Depends what you mean by expansion. We've see throughout the years all the ad hoc teams and failures it must be 20:1 ratio of failures to successes RU have a strategic plan, worked out and financed and its spread throughout the world via 7s tournaments, programmes in schools etc. Georgia snd Argentina are now really big RU nations. We don't seem to have a plan and wait for a phone call from a guy with a few bob to spend and an idea, which seems to be what Rimmer calls expansion and Elstone looks at the business plan and rejects Let get the plan first and get everyone in Board. I have a mate in the SW who says RL is really growing, but needs help. Outside of the heartlands, RL at grassroots is growing tremendously, both domestically and abroad. SL and the RFL do not do enough to support this in general which is a shame because strong grassroots level means a larger playing pool and stronger teams. This means in the long term the pro ranks get healthier and stronger. It doesn't help our short term problems but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try.

There's a lot of hysteria being thrown about in RL circles at the moment over this. Everything from RL management incompetence has caused the lower offer (It hasn't), not having Toronto in the SL has caused it (It hasn't. Cutting-off twenty-odd million off an offer isn't due to any club let alone a small new one from Canada) Sky want to kill the game has caused it (This one's mental) Elstone and Rimmer are directly to blame for a reduced offer (that a third party submits and is out of their control)
I think all it really shows is that it allows various supporters to shoehorn their own particular obsessions, grievances, and prejudices into the current situation. While systematically ignoring the real reason of the reduced offer which is the parasite that is Premier league football. The constant increase in SKY's financial commitment to the EPL has meant that it has given lower offers to all other sports it covers. Across the board. It's under pressure to fill dwindling subscription numbers and it's putting its eggs all in one basket.
The real concern should be the fact that even with the reduced offer nobody else comes close to matching it. While I think a move away from SKY is inevitable at some point, it has a hold over the sport that isn't healthy for the growth of the game. Effectively buying it up and showing the bare minimum so that it withholds the rights to any other potential broadcasters. This is a fairly common occurrence with broadcasters around the world, but it effectively chokes the sports that it does it to. This is a dangerous time for us as a sport. The reduced offer may herald the demise of some lower league clubs and bring back the real reality of part-time players. Something that would probably mean the death knell of any future expansion.
What happens next is pretty serious. I just wish that RL fans could show a little solidarity rather than trying to squeeze in their particular brand of obsession into the argument. This isn't aimed at anyone on here by the way, just an observation in general.

West Tigers player of the year three years ago.
Would be a great player for us and SL. Perfect age, talent, physical and would be a great leader for the young lads in the pack.

Seems like we're the front runners to sign Elijah Taylor. Just seen this hope it has more traction than the Levi rumour. But is he another back rower? He's another utility. Can play loose, second row, and hooker.

Now now. Let's give Marshall a chance. Judging him before a ball is kicked... ...I'm sure after he's bedded-in after six games or so we'll get to see a higher class of moaning and whinging than what we've been used to. This is by no means a dig at Marshall, a dig at Powell with his miserable face every week they played bemoaning the fact some of his players were isolating (possibly) I was trying to be lighthearted, the written word sometimes lacks nuance...

We needed a bent tester for Covid and totally miserable moaning coach as per Cas Now now. Let's give Marshall a chance. Judging him before a ball is kicked... ...I'm sure after he's bedded-in after six games or so we'll get to see a higher class of moaning and whinging than what we've been used to.

We should all be pretty used to our special treatment from the RFL by now surely? This can't be that much of a surprise...

Don’t think it will be quiet now that the RFL have fined us £15k for not fulfilling a fixture. Yet Leeds are able to pull out of a fixture and nothing is done. Statement from Leeds Rhinos "There's one law for the rich and another one for the poor!" Uncle Gary being Uncle Gary. We all just have to live with it.

Gary Carter says that it's news to Salford about Danny Levi.
Could be our usual tactics of being super secretive with deals?

Just played golf with a couple of hardened Leigh supporters (sorry I didn't know ehen we started) and they assured me Addy had left and signed for us. They also said they rated him as their best player. So we'll see We're going to have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to young and talented back-row forwards. I'm okay with this.

I think the modern game is going further and further away from the need for a 'grizzly prop' some teams still have them but it seems the modern game is more suited to the small more mobile forward with people like yates and knowles flourishing. This for sure. The game is only getting quicker, and the ball in play for much longer. No surprises that Bateman was rated one of the best in the world in his time in the NRL, and players like Yates who can play 80 and put in a full shift are seeing their stock rise. There are a few exceptions to the big prop idea, Papali being the prime example of a massive human who can do the work of Yates, but they are rare beasts at the moment. The teams that adapt their forwards will always succeed. The teams stuck in the past with regards to positional attributes struggle. Just look at Hull. We seem to be collecting a group of younger fitter forwards which suggests we are adapting to the quicker style the game's evolving into.

That profit roughly tallies with what I think the grand final run was worth to us. Leeds were finishing their stadium renovations so that should account for their loss. Seems fair. I'm wondering how Hudds has come out on top? The two teams with the smallest crowds post the largest profits. That's bound to wind-up a few opposition fans!
