Nine penalties. Can't believe we're still in the game. I think it'll sap out energy late in the game.

Not sure why he Leeds fans are so unhappy. He clearly leads with the shoulder and doesn't attempt to wrap his arm. Under modern rules it's a sin bin. I'm not happy with all the penalties against Salford but I don't blame the ref for them, they were penalties.
The one against Singleton is weak as I don't think he leant weight, but he followed up and penalised Handley, so we have consistency. I always hated that second or third man lending weight when the player was already tackled so I'm happy to see those penalised.
I'd like to see Shorrocks move the ball more. He seems to be playing like a prop 🤣 but he's definitely showing up his hand and getting involved. Cust has shown toughness too. Nene look dangerous.

🤬🤬🤬🤬 I'm sorry know it's first game but come on, refs have been to every club they all know rules, pen pen pen, this Leeds team was there for the taking, yet we have gifted them all the points, only one winner here now

Got to agree, last year we had three major issues.
1) Poor kicking - Sneyd's been good today, but Atkin kicking was a huge error and eventually led to a try 2) Poor discipline - We've been awful and can't moan about the ref 3) Not completing sets after points - We've been poor in this area today
But, somehow, we've stayed in it and are still it 🙏🙏🙏

The penalties killled us, giving at least 3 or 4 for markers not square is criminal. Lots of positives but we need two big props to bring on and batter a tired pack like they did. I like Atkin but tonight he had a mare and Borouh is just a lliability. I’d play Mellor next game at hooker it’s such an important position and we were poor there tonight. Brodie looks like he wants to be back at Salford😉

I feel like that's a blown two points.
Good: Good goal line defence (though Leeds were also poor with their structure, I'd be fearful against a Saints or Wigan). 100% effort all round. Sneyd kicked well. Yardage in the first half. Nene looks a real handful. Cust showed a lot of tougness, a willingness to defend tough, and run at the line. We need to try and get him more space to see what he can do. Watkins and Stone stood up well and both came up with some very strong tackles. Without working back from a terrible injury. Staying in the game so long despite giving away so many penalties. We have Mellor to come in at hooker.
Okay: Our wingers returned the ball well but they aren't wingers (clear in attack and defence), we need Nofoaluma and Ryan on the wings. Shorrocks tried really hard. I think too hard. His execution was off with the pass and he played more like a prop. I look forward to him settling into the team and I think Rowley needss to give him the LF spot and see what he makes of it. Move Partington to a mobile prop role, which he does for part for h game anyway. We had a couple of good moments of execution, which is obviously a work on progress given the new players with have to integrate. Definitely something to build one.
A worry: Props - Ormonroyd has continued like last year and is nothing like 2022 Ormonroyd, and that drop ball under the he sticks while in possession epitomises him. Singleton seems to stop as he's about to make contact and I don't think he's going to cope with these new penalty rules. King—obviosuly didn't play today but he missed the game due to being banned. We had no go-forward in the forwards. Hooker - I thought they tried hard but weren't incisive, didn't get out of acting half enough or distribute effectively.
Bad: Composure - we just don't have any (too excited and going offside, hot head penalties, conceding position straight after points, trying to play too quickly and making mistakes). Terrible discipline. Not just penalties on the ruck or in tackles but also offside (4 times?).

The effort was tremendous and attitude in defence, soft penalties are now becoming a joke, 11 today don’t help us win games. It’s clear Cross and Hankinson are not wingers we need David and Ryan in the team. Nene was outstanding I’d put him on the wing v Cas. But as first games go the commitment was class.

For what it’s worth I thought our effort tonight was excellent. If we can perform like that every week we are in for a good season. That game should give the team confidence for the season ahead.
On a separate note I thought the sin-binning of Amir Bourouh was very harsh.

Can see Mellor starting at 6 when he is fit with Cust at 9. Bourouh is a trier but lacks attacking flair. Atkin should continue as utility from the bench.

The 11 penalties excludes six-agains, we had several of them.
I agree on Bourouh. I don't think we were given a warning and I don't think he was in any longer than many other tackles. Outside of that, I don't have much to complain about regarding penalties.
No way Mellor plays 6 without injuries. He was more like a Sneyd when he played half-back, we need Cust there to run at the line and provide a running threat. I'd like to see us create more space for him. We definitely need Mellor at 9 though. He'll offer much more rugby intelligence and craft than Bourouh.

I think that was light years better than anything we imagined before the game. Yes penalties again. Was the ref correct debatable on some and not others. The Borough sinbin was nonsense. Where I have a problem is consistency with the ref.He pulled us twice for not lining up straight at the play the ball.So I watched intently afterwards and Leeds got away with one that was at least as bad if not worse than ours. With offside it's a lottery.I accept being called for offside if the ref balances this out because all sides are off at all times.Either call a couple each to keep the players honest or don't call them. I think the Leeds sinbin was borderline red no attempt to tackle. We looked excellent at centre we need the outside pace to make the most of them. The prop argument is endless but if we can't get any we cover for it with effort. Sharrocks looked a little small so he need to play clever. I liked Borough's commitment and he seems to have bulked up.I think we use him to close things up after a creative spell by Mellor. Overall frustrated but boy I was expecting a hiding so I thought we did amazingly well.

Agree with the comments in regards to coming into this game expecting a hiding. We sorely miss another grizzled prop. Ormondroyd seems to lack the aggression and bite whereas Singleton has plenty of this but lacks the on field intelligence.
Unless they are a real future talent then young props are a gamble as don't know if they possess the required attributes to be a modern day prop.
Rowley and Blease have struck lucky before with Dupree so hopefully we'll be able to pick up another to mould.

I thought we were great, lots of real endeavour and more importantly hints of better things to come. Penalty count was lopsided 15-6 which affected the game and possibly the outcome.
I have to say some comments on here, sound more like Sky pundits doing an autopsy.
You could be Jon Wilkin!
