Think I read on here that Thaler is by far the best ref in super league?? That performance was nothing to do with the ref I agree but neither were most of the other results where the ref gets blamed. Thaler made at least as many mistakes today than Kendall normally makes and more than were made in the GF and CCF. But hey ho |

I think the biggest problem we’ve had so far is at hooked. Ackers needs to start. He’s our best distributor of the ball. Patton does some good stuff but too often the first receiver is catching the ball over his head or by his knees. That loses 2 or 3 seconds - one to stop and catch the ball and another one or two to adjust hands to get a pass away when the defence is moving up as quick as cats was today the half backs have no chance
One thing that was working was putting a grubber in behind the advancing defence but we stopped doing it. That looks to me like the way to best Catalans. They turn slowly

The most positive spin I can find is that we played badly against three teams that would probably have beaten us even if we’d played somewhat better. I didn’t expect us to win any of the first three league matches, but I didn’t expect our performance, especially in the most recent two to be so bad. Leigh is certainly looking like a very significant match in our season now. Play with that attitude and Leigh could turn us over, but bring a better attitude into it and we should be ok. The question is can Marshall and the squad find that attitude? I’ve never really grumbled when seeing Salford lose so long as the effort is there, but today and v Hull it wasn’t. I know some teams just have more resources and there’s nothing we can do about that, but I worry when I see a lack of togetherness and desire.

Much common sense on here and a lot of over reaction too.
Someone suggested Tui possibly at full back as I don`t think he is sharp enough currently at #6.
Our right side was very weak today and overall our line speed was awful.
Lets hope Marshall takes a lot of negatives from the game and fixes them quickly.

Last season first 5 games (final league placings in brackets)
Saints (2nd) 48-8 Salford
Salford 10-12 Huddersfield (7th)
Salford 8-22 Leeds (5th)
Salford 12-22 Wakefield (10th)
Catalans (4th) 30-14 Salford
Played 5, Lost 5.
52 points scored, 134 points conceded.
I'd have expected us to have won at least 2 of those games but we were woeful. Hudds, Leeds & Wakey were very average in those games but still turned us over. We were basically outenthused (I hate that word). Catalans away we were blown away 1st half and were our own worst enemy that day as well (mistakes, discipline etc). When we got our first official win in round 7 against Wigan (the scrappy home win against Toronto was expunged) we were outplayed for most of the game before we hit a purple patch.
So I'd say we were every bit as bad at the start of last season as we have been this. Does that excuse the last couple of performances? No. But we've got previous for it. Leigh next week is gonna be our first proper yardstick. On paper we should beat them with a bit to spare (I genuinely expect our pack to bully theirs). We have some flaws to iron out but I'm not losing faith yet. A bad loss against Leigh and maybe I'll change my mind.🤞
More positives.....
1) City lost (sorry for non-"wendyball" fans😁)
2) I've got a kebab on order
3) I've got a great selection of booze to get me through the evening

Trying to remain positive after the performances so far this season. Yes we have a new coach and several new players and I know it takes time to gel but I was expecting a little more than I’ve witnessed so far. OK the clubs we have played have all started well and Catalan away when you travel the day of the game is very tough but it doesn’t excuse the indiscipline and catalogue of errors. My biggest concern is that we look toothless in attack and pose little threat with the ball other than a few clever kicks from TUI near the try line. In my opinion we’re have got worse with every performance but I’ll hoping the boys can show what I know they are capable of which is a hell of a lot more than today. I don’t want the club to press the panic button just yet but I question if it was a wise decision by Richard Marshall to overlook Paul Rowley in his coaching support role as he had a very positive effect on the teams attack and was extremely well respected by the players. The other concern I have is the players endurance because we appear to be hitting the wall after 15-20 minutes and losing the arm wrestle and I question if this is down to a change in conditioning team? Anyway I don’t want to be negative but there is obviously some hard work ahead to get anywhere close to the performance levels at the back end of last year.

Only one person to blame for this inept performance and that's Marshall. Lord only knows what plays he rehursted in training this week. OK ball in had first. Looked OK for the first 10 minutes was an arm wrestle we were in,then came this need to force the play,the players looked nervous started making stupid mistakes and stopped doing the good things we did at the start. We looked devoid of ideas. In defence we looked so slow off the line and considering this was the one big thing Marshall worked on we left big gaps and at one point even let the ball bounce which nearly cost us a try, infact I'd go as far as to day this looked like a Salford side pre Ian Watson.
We looked badly organised which brings me back to Marshall who doesn't even know his best side yet and can't get a tune out of the players he picks. 18 points in 240 minutes of super league has me very worried and I can't help but feel three games in and we're in a relegation fight. On a side note I watched Huddersfields slick attack last night and although they lost you could see progress, I can't take anything out of perpignan.
