That's fair enough but Salford City are still in League two and not in an automatic promotion place - they may not even make a play-off place this year either, let alone be promoted to league One.
Therefore it might be a couple of years before they are promoted to the Championship, if at all. Maybe they should be making these enquiries once they are in League One and competing for promotion rather than trying to buy the ground on the off chance.

It’s Sale trying to buy the stadium and they will look to partner with Salford City as they will pay what SRD are contracted to pay I.e £350k a year. With the reductions we only pay £80k per year as that is all we can afford.
Sale can afford it as they receive £11m per year from SKY and they have wealthy backers too. Ged Mason and John Whittaker share a chauffuer and they are all good friends with Simon Orange et al

Neville Currently on Skysports Pleading with People to Contact there MPs write to the Government. Because its So unfair to Supporters that the Money Men are showing no Consideration to Sports Fans !!! If Salford Supporters Fail to get their head around what Could happen then we'll end up Like Swinton in the Championship and being the lodgers at somewhere Far Far worse than the City of Salford stadium.

Although I do agree with Neville re ESL he is so hypocritical. He won’t think twice about partnering up with Sale and shafting SRD so he should be called out on this every time we get a chance to do so. There’ll be nothing left of our heritage if we just let the wealthy owners dominate sport

I’m no fan of Gary Neville but that’s a different point he’s making. Sport is survival of the fittest but it should also be a meritocracy. Football shouldn’t be a closed shop. Our sport was lessened when there was no relegation. The stadium issue is a different matter altogether and ,at its heart, is whether council money should support us . I think it should

I respectfully disagree, though the issue we refer to is not entirely a football or Rugby one, the comparisons of greedy and wealthy owners taking advantage of the less wealthy is very evident.
There are two shareholders in the company that owns the stadium, John Whittaker of Peel and Paul Dennett and any sale requires both signatures. If we can put pressure on Dennett then we have a slim chance of success.

Well we will see then.

Greedy and wealthy owners aren’t great, unless we have one. Also harks back to greedy mill owners ! I don’t live in Salford but my understanding is that supporting the stadium company has been a political hot potato for the council. For what its worth,my view is that our Achilles heal is the involvement of Salford FC,as the council could dress this up as still being part owned by a Salford institution . Whittaker’s decision won’t be pay back on the stadium ,it’ll depend on the strategic importance of the stadium to his development plans in the area, but it’s probably served its purpose now. Just my opinion, doesn’t mean I’m right !

Neville FC can't get promoted this year
Ex Bury FC ground, freehold, capacity 12,000, plenty of parking, will fit RU posts and soccer goals, now for sale.

I think our options are pretty limited. Can you expect a stadium owner be it the council & its partner or a Private Consortoium to rent it out at a sub-market rent level indefinitely ? Is anything else available that we could buy / rent / build on in Salford ?

Is anything else available that we could buy / rent / build on in Salford ? Complicated. The Council should keep it for Salford and it’s teams but,if the rent we pay isn’t covering it’s costs let alone a commercial rent, then the ratepayers of Salford are subsidising the club. Is that fair ? As I don’t live in Salford,or see all the local news,I’m not qualified to comment. Gigg Lane isn’t in Salford, obviously, and could we even afford it’s upkeep ? Seems too much like going full circle back to the Willows. Handy to get to,though !

If we move to Bury that is the end of Salford RLFC, striking similarities to Swinton. For our ever dwindling fan base this would be the final nail in the coffin. Distressing stuff
