The most sickening part of this is saga is clubs trying using this incident to display how high and mighty and virtuous they are. I.E Wigan using the Catalan game as a LGBT event, sure they are a tolerant club who have values, but you can’t tell me they’re not taking advantage of it all for some easy marketing and to polish their image/ego. I'd say it's smart marketing.

I disagree with his views immensely but all he has said is that people that he doesn't like will go to some fictional place of punishment when they die. He's also blamed a natural disaster caused by climate change on people he doesn't like. It's offensive but he has just made himself look like a pathetic nutter, a street corner preacher for a dwindling superstition. Instead of being morally outraged and giving him more press coverage, we should just be laughing at him. To me, it is about as silly as blaming Donald Trump because my toast landed butter side down when I dropped it.
Laugh at him, ignore him, move on. And if you don't think I take LGBTQ issues seriously, one of me step-daughters just got engaged to her girlfriend and I couldn't be more proud.

That’s great to hear about your step daughter steveh 😊 My worry is that there are real like life consequences for people when idiots say stuff like this. In particular it puts some people off playing or watching the sport. Thankfully the Falous views are not commonly held anymore. When I was at catholic school in the 80s I would say those kind of views were absolutely mainstream and the reaction to Falou shows how far we’ve come.

I am not going to comment on what he said, only to say I don't agree with it. The one thing I would say on the matter is I was reading a piece by a sports journalist who made this point in relation to the story and in relation to Kegan Hurst who on hearing the news said that Rugby League had let him down. The journalists asked did Hurst wife and children think the same when he left.

What seems strange to me is that RL and many around it talk about our gold standard morals, principles and standards.
When those standards are not adhered to verbally, such as Folau, there's a hiatus. However when those standards are broken by actions, as some on these pages identified, Johnson, Lui, Walker, and indeed Todd Carney at this Club and others at other clubs, the RL seem to turn a blind eye.
So it appears in terms of the RL, morally you can do things wrong but not say anything that offends. Just seems to be a lack of consistency to me. Or is it possibly just about image, marketing and money into the game?

Smack and glass whoever you want but god forbid typing some nasty words onto a keyboard. The world has gone p*ssed up. I know it’s flavour of the month to be offended and outraged by everything but all this carry on is getting beyond a joke.
I do not condone what he said and I fully support LGBT rights but I think this madness needs a line drawing under it.

Not a single one. No one has to say it, it’s blindingly obvious. Next time a club signs a player who’s had a recent domestic violence charge(interchangeable with whatever you fancy; drink driving, assault, drugs) I look forward to Neil Hudgell threatening to take legal action, Wigan host an anti-domestic violence event, Carney/Clarke/Wells discussing it before almost every first round game and the whole RL community being up in arms. And I’m not playing top trumps with convictions here, but the crimes I’ve mentioned above are actual real crimes that harm people and ruin families. All Folau has done is write some nasty words about gay people going to place that doesn’t even exist on his Twitter. The past couple of weeks has been one of the worst displays of virtue signalling I’ve seen, we could almost be in America.

Chang, on this thread nobody has been ‘virtue signaling’ or showing any particular ‘outrage or offence’ - it’s been a decent, balanced discussion with good points on both sides so lets not drag it down to the level of Twitter eh?

Apologies if you think I’m aiming my rants at anyone on this thread, I’m not. It’s aimed at the clowns in the press, social media and other RL circles (namely Hull KR, Wigan and Chris Chester) who are turning the whole thing into a drawn out saga. Not many things can wind me up but this has got me incredibly frustrated and I used this thread to vent.

Martin Samuel has written a column on this, cue predictable comments on the Daily Mail. His views are consistent with the views on here. Nobody is supporting Folau’s views, everyone including me is diametrically opposed to them. The problem,as has been identified,is that this is so subjective. Martin makes the point that if a player has ,say, non pc views on abortion or something similar, where do Superleague go with that. What about domestic violence. On Sky last night,Wilkin who I highly rate made a mess of the debate about domestic violence v. homophobia. He was almost saying which was worse. I wish Folau hadn’t signed but who decides the relevant merits of the other disgusting acts?

Wasn't their an top England Union star who agreed with Folau's twitter.Should he have been banned.
