Thought the ref had a good game until the last 10. He got Cas' penultimate try wrong twice. It was a knock on by Cas near their try line and dropped ball near ours(no play at the ball by us). The sinbinning of Watkins was a nonsense. All game long players not square at the ptb. Then suddenly they get called.Ditto offsides(consistency!) We are lacking invention near the try line and a strike weapon on the wings(at least hopefully that's addressed). Sneyd was brilliant and Nene's flash of brilliance just before HT actually prob won it for us.

Correct. Definitely no play at the ball from Sneyd which led to their last try, should've been our ball.
Sneyd was superb and you won't see a better kicking game all season (including the couple of kick-offs that forced the dropouts).
I think I've just heard on Radio Manchester that Watkins got binned for dissent but didn't see that at all TBH.

What is it with our forwards and brain farts??usually it's king this week it's big jack. Thought we played alright in patches, looked short of pace on one side with hankinson and cross but that will change when Dave takes his place next week. Thought sneyd's kicking was superb today and a special mention for amir borough who's finding his feet in this side and chipped in with a decent try. Just wish we could stop giving stupid penalties away, at one point I thought they were called Castleford six again!!!

My take was they gave 100 per cent and you can't ask for more But going forward I think it will be an up and down season The rules I don't know what they are anymore and neither does the referees They are killing the game these people running it they are doing their best to drive people away, thank God I have seen the best of it,in my opinion anyway.

A number of solid performances today, Syned, Singo and MacDonald. We need our two specialist wingers to start desperately as Cross and Hankinson aren’t wingers. Shooting out of the line gifted Cas two tries today, Cross and Cust guilty of that, we really don’t need to do it. Glad we got the win in the end.

Agree with Dixon, potentially a good match but no idea on some of the 6 agains…for both sides..and some strange decisions…again for both sides Wigan v Penrith 2 six agains I think, few penalties, no sin bins or head tackles…today I lost count ans couldn’t understand a lot of decisions
Moore, mature ref, has words with players and only penalises where really needed…we’ve had 2 immature refs who appear to think they need to whistle by the minute
Spoiniling the game for me…somebody needs to have a word…they’re not centre stage

Not to do with the fact he scored but I thought I'd big up Bourouh and I can't believe how often he's left out of dispatches.

Agreed, Russ. He had a great game. Tackling machine too. Can I say that he reminds me of a young Malcolm Alker.

Nofa and Ryan's debuts cannot come quick enough. If we can stop shooting the line we will limit tries, at times the defence in the middle was awesome. I can see Jack getting a game ban, the Watkins yellow was a farce. All in all happy with the effort, just need better execution in attack but that will come with time.

Would be good if there was a way of communicating what the 6 agains are for as if its a penalty then we see what for. Potentially use the fact there is a screen to put the reason on to keep the fans informed? They are all micced up so easy to communicate to the scoreboard team. Thought we looked good in patches, discipline a worry again but we got through the first few sets well with no penalties but when they started then we couldnt stop! Bourouh played really well IMO, Singleton also put in a lot of effort. that MacDonald try was excellent and Sneyd had a very good game. plenty of positives to take from an early season game with a lot of new faces/positions again.

I also thought the ref was decent yesterday. A lot of people around me complaining at the penalties in the last 15 minutes but I think they were all fair calls from the official.
Without the silly penalties, I think that would (and should) have been a more comfortable win.
Agree with all the player comments. I thought Ormondroyd, in his first spell, was as good as we have seen him in a while. Later seemed to lose his head a bit. Late challenge on the kicker was pointless and put the rest of the team under pressure.

To me the issue with the ref was that nobody understood what he was giving 6 agains or often penalties for. His signalling was often non existent.
And to me, too many 6 agains…only 2 in the whole of the Wigan match…as Rowley says ‘killing the game, an easy cop out’ ….get rid of it except for extreme offences…simple warnings usually help…for both sides

On the other hand you should be used to not understanding rules and how they're applied you watch yooonion.

I thought Bourouh played too long yesterday, for one stint. High work rate and lots of tackling. A bit like Logan Tomkins (another underrated player who was good in a rotation). But he shouldn't be playing 60 minutes straight like he did yesterday. He's good for the first 25 minutes (and a later spell) but I think Atkin needs to get on at that point. Bourouh offers very little as a running threat from acting half and his passing from acting half is slow. He doesn't pass from the ground. He lifts the balls, jerks it in his hands, then passes. That's something for him to work on.
I'm not having a go, it's an observation about rotation. There aren't that many all round hookers in the league and most teams benefit from a rotation of hookers with different styles. He gets through a load of work in on the middle, defensively, and hookers have to follow the ball offensively. I think at 25 minutes you want someone who can take advantage of tired legs and half breaks. By the time the second half starts, Borough would have had 30 minutes rest and when he comes on, at whatever point, in the second half, he'll have plenty of energy to tackle everything that moves. His energy in the middle is definitely something that can help us outwork the opposition and gain momentum but then you need someone more electric to take advantage of that. Yesterday, I thought Cas were gaining momentum at the back end of the first half and injecting a little extra pace would have been beneficial.
