Today v Leeds is a tough ask, I am frustrated with the club that we have not looked for cover at 2nd Row in the past 9 days knowing we had lost Dixon and Longstaff to HIA's. But we are where we are, at least Greenwood got a run out yesterday in the reserves. Not sure what Rowley will do 11-13, maybe Lafai into 2nd Row or Gerrard/Hellewell/Partington with Addy coming off the bench. Massive game this in terms of top 6 and getting momentum back. As I have said previously I think Rowley makes some bizarre decisions in terms of team selection, we lost the game for two reasons; because Moore is bent - Leeds penalty count was a joke and the fact Moore let them get away with late hits/high tackles/knees in was even worse. The other was the fact that we choose to put Costello on the bench and not use him, Sidlow would have been a much better sub in the 17, I think in the modern game any coach not using their compliment of subs is typically at fault if their side loses, and this is not the first time we've done it only using 16 players. Having another forward on the bench would have helped yesterday. Anyway to the positives 'Bent Moore aside' the effort was tremendous, gutted we have more niggles after that game and that Watkins is missing for at least 5-6 weeks. The players gave it their all. I'm not a massive Addy fan but thought he had his best game in a Salford shirt yesterday he was barely able to walk near the end. The tries we conceded were also preventable, Gerrard watching Smith run past him and Cross and Sio getting their defence wrong on the edge. These efforts can be fixed. We outplayed Leeds yesterday, hope the club rightfully complain about Moore those penalties made a difference.

I thought yesterday was a good game - close to being a great game but spoiled by too many handling errors and poor officiating. I wish I knew what set off the handbags but I was so incensed at the referee (and both linesmen) missing what I saw as a definite knock on at the base of the scrum, I was looking skywards. On the knock-on, a genuine question, the best place official must have been the in-goal judge. Can they help the referee in general play or only on in-goal incidents?

I also agree with MR about Rowley not using Costello off the bench, there is no logic to it when our pack with 15 to go was running on fumes. The effort and commitment on display yesterday was first class, we had Moore and a mountain to climb. I just hope we get loan players in if our team are carrying knocks, we do not need half a team out. We've still 9 games left to play. But I am massively encouraged by what I saw yesterday.

I think Costello was on the bench as cover for two reasons We had 2 in the second row who had not played there or a full 80 all season We had 3 backs returning from injury
Hindsight is great but they all managed to get thro the game
In retrospect I went yesterday expecting a drubbing but came away with the feeling that we were cheated out of the game; the backs came thro and all played well, that our two new second rowers were effectively magnificent in the circumstances, that the ref should be put in the lower regions of the Conference…that Rowley with v limited resources continues to amaze me We rely too much on Sneyd who’s played virtually every minute of the season and our pack held theirs but they got away with continual ‘professional fouls, cheating and off the ball incidents’.

Sneyd is a scrum half JJR he's supposed to play every minute of every game, just like all the 7 backs should, when fit. We're also supposed to rely on him as he's our general, game manager, and primary kicker in open play. The problem is, on several occasions this year, we haven't been able to rely on him to managed games or provide an adequate kicking game. He's been poor too often imo. But people remember things like the drop goal against Wakey in golden point but forgot how poor he was kicking the ball throughout that game, and in most games this year. I know it isn't an easy job but it's what he's paid for and he doesn't get his eyes up or execute well enough. He's been panned for his kicking game on Sky a few times this year when in the last he earned plaudits for it. Look at some like Harry Smith, young lad, not a lot of experience, playing without a proper 6 and an average number 9, yet his open play kicking game is generally excellent. Maybe it's his age and he's struggling with fatigue during games, maybe it's confidence, I don't know. I've always been a fan of Sneyd and was gutted when he ended up going to Hull after his loan with Cas. His game management and kicking was something we missed - look at his to CC performances for Hull - until we signed Dobson, but he's showing signs of being past it.
On the game, I genuinely thought we'd get beat comfortably yesterday. Leeds how put in two very good performances and we've been poor. However, the lads clearly dug in and rallied around each other and should have had the two points. As I always say, I don't mind losing, it's how you lose. Yesterday, the ref had a shocker and it's a tough loss in that regard, but the lads played well as a group on adversity and I'm convice a few are playing with knocks, which I know happens with all teams as it's impossible to be 100% every week in RL, but we haven't had the luxury of giving some of the guys in the pack a week off here and there.

I thought it was an enjoyable game yesterday but it will be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
I know that it's easy to bag the ref when we lose (I am definitely guilty of doing this), but yesterday's refereeing display was possibly the worst I have seen in several decades of supporting the Club. Missing a couple of incidents is OK, refs are only human. Missing lots of incidents is unforgivable.
It's the first time where I have considered the possibility that the ref has deliberately cheated, it was *that* bad.
On a positive note I thought King Vuniyawa was very good again, he's probably the most improved player this season. Also, fair play to Danny Addy - I am not his biggest fan by any stretch of the imagination but he played a full game yesterday and it looks like his fitness has drastically improved.
If we didn't have so many injuries I think we'd have comprehensively beaten Leeds yesterday even with Aaron Moore officiating.

I was a bit disappointed with the attendance at the game. Leeds must have taken 1500 at least.

Time to move on and focus our energies on Leigh. We all know how bad that was yesterday regardless of Leeds fans insistence that the bad calls were evened out.🤔
Just hope we've got enough fit bodies. Still think Brodie & Ackers have lost a bit of that zip around the PTB which is nullifying our attacking threat a bit although Brodie's kicking has come on in leaps & bounds.
I'm still baffled as to why Leigh are doing so well. Lam didn't pull up any trees at Wigan with his coaching so how is he getting such a good tune out of this lot?
Leigh: O'Brien, Charnley, Leutele, Hardaker, Briscoe, Reynolds, Lam, Amone, Ipape, Nakubuwai, Chamberlain, Holmes, Asiata.
How many of Leigh's starting 17 from Friday would we swop ours for? 4 or 5 maybe?
Leutele Lam (over Brodie?) Amone Ipape (?) Asiata

Another top performer out, Leigh going be loving the game this weekend I'm sure someone will start the Leigh thread soon enough. In the meantime, will they rest anyone ahead of the challenge cup semi ?
