As a very long standing supporter of the Reds driving past the AJ Bell last week I noticed the crowds going up to the stadium for the Sale game, it looked a good sized crowd with shuttle buses going to and from the stadium towards the Trafford Centre and the Makro car park, the Airport car park seemed to be full as was the lay by further on. The same again today when I was coming past the stadium on the way home, and I switched on ITV and watched more or less the full match, I was more interested in the size of the crowd, which looked at between eight and ten thousand, with each stand nearly full. My point is, could someone please explain how a ground that is supposedly miles away from anywhere, with poor transport links, no atmosphere, poor parking, not near any pubs attract such a crowd ? PS I have heard from someone who was in one of the boxes, that the hospitality appear almost fully booked.

They were playing the top of the table team leicester , They Salehave had a crap season according to my RU supporting work colleague. They did have just under 4000 for a home game in December. Everybody wants to watch a visiting team that's the league leaders.

One can only imagine were we would be if we had attracted crowds of that ilk

Yes, like it or not, Sale are a v professional outfit with a long term strategic plan which they are now implementing. Part of that is professional marketing which functions well, to our detriment. Pity we can’t work with them as other RL and RU sides do, but you have to admire the crowd development which they’ve achieved.

I no longer follow but it is obvious that the market target are generally more cash rich in terms of disposable income. This will always make the job far easier. Try to enjoy the season and ignore Sale.

I went to the game yesterday as my son is in their development peogram at under 14's. What they did do yesterday which is clever is brought all the kids who are in the program in the North West and I am guessing about 1200 boys acroaa 14's , 15's and 16's to the match for a ohoto at half time. All free in for them. Clearly they then all brought their parents who paid 75% of full price. probably added at least 2000 on the gate.

I went to the Barley Farm for a family meal yesterday and parking was an absolute joke. Range Rover's, Audi's etc parked everywhere and loads of them not even in marked parking bays.
Plenty of middle class/toff fans who are too tight to pay to park their flash motors so that people actually using the pub have to drive away and find alternative parking.🤬
And no... I've got no time for them before anyone points out the bleeding obvious.😁👍

Disposable income is what is used to go a sports event. It's what you have after paying for basic food, clothing and shelter. I speak to many people very week who cannot afford going to a sports event (and there are three "professional" in their area.)

Or is the effect of the home made schnapps I was given over the Weekend !!

Hull kr Wakefield and now Cas have started upgrading grounds with help from local councils and businesses; sadly we’re downgrading…if it ever goes ahead. Lots of Championship clubs Leigh Widnes Newcastle York etc have better grounds than we’ll have Reality is we seem to be moving in the wrong direction and others the right direction
Not being negative just facing facts. Worrying for the future, and we don’t have the income of a Beaumont Koukash and others.
Heard our Sponsorship guru has left

Widnes have had a better ground than the AJ Bell for years but it's hardly helped them has it? Personally I'd rather a small ground that we can own than one double the size three quarters empty where we make no money from beer, food etc. Try and enjoy the season, whatever happens will happen, no point fretting about things we can't control.
