No more experimental coaching teams. I’d much prefer someone who’s coached at Superleague level. We’re going to have a decent squad and we need a proven elite coach

Hastings recently was singing his praises on social media. So you could be right on that one.[/quote]
Slightly off topic but Hastings seemed to be claiming some credit on twitter for Brierley moving to Salford. Anyone know why?

Brian McDermott has left his advisory role at Oldham and is being linked with Salford.... I seriously hope not.

When someone asked Hastings he said "business". That's all I know.

I'm not keen on McDermott, but like I said elsewhere he's exactly the type of character of coach we need. Wouldn't be my first choice but given options available he's got to be in with a shout.

A mate who’s a Leigh fan said Brierley absolutely superb against Wakefield. He did get sent off near the end of the game preventing a try so he’ll fit in really well.

Ironically it never happened for Ryan when he was highly prized to come to Salford. I think he's a more complete player since those days and I think we have him in his prime to be honest.

If that grub comes to coach Salford my family and I will not be renewing our season tickets. The things he has said about Salford in the past should never be forgiven.. He is also a dour obnoxious Yorkshire git.

Like I said, I personally wouldn't want him, but I do recognise that he has the stature and character for a coach that Salford have been lacking for many years. Wane is another example of a coach that has stature and character.

He’s a bit of a prick no doubt but you’re talking about the most successful coach in SL history. We keep going on about coaches taking us to the next level and he’s is genuinely one. The likes of Ward and Henderson might be a good plodders who we might play some good stuff under and technically ‘challenge’ but as fans do we want to be more than just the ‘underdogs’?

When the tough got going at Leeds and his top players started to retire and move on he got sacked. He lost his last 7 game at Leeds if you remember. He then precided over a thuggish Horrible Toronto team and had minimal success. His Leeds team had top players all over it and I think any good coach would have been able to manage them. At Salford he would not have the money or the depth of talent at his disposal. It would be a huge mistake IMHO to appoint him,

McDermott, possibly another Noble. Unproven in his later years and probably unable, but maybe needs the cash.
Now Noble knows how to make the money.

I suppose all this depends on what the club see as someone who can really stay out of that relegation battle next season. In an ideal world we'd have the choice of a top coach with pedigree, but in the real world choices are a lot slimmer. For me, I think the club should abandon the idea of an untested head coach. No guys coming in on their first dig at head coaching in SL and no NRL coaches that haven't coached at the top level. We've tried that this season so we shouldn't be looking to repeat the experience. We need someone tried and tested, but the trouble here is that a lot of the names available have been away for quite a while and present a slight risk in that way. The other option is to get a recently failed head coach to counteract that problem, but then you're basically appointing someone else's recent reject. Rejected for very viable reasons.
So with this in mind the names in the hat for me, whether I'd like them here or not, in no particular order (With added win percentage!):
McDermott 57% Rowley 80% Cartwright 46% Wane 68% Ward 53% Henderson 64%
One of these with a selection of quality assistants that could be available might have the capacity to keep us out of that relegation battle. There may be other names in the hat more suitable but I'm not aware of them. I just think another untested coach is too much of a gamble at this stage.

Don’t rule out Danny Orr stepping up to the plate
