First half was so very bad. The Sio try was the bit of luck that we needed and Inu proved his worth in the 13 but his defence in the centre was poor. Atkin made a huge difference, and full marks to Brown for demonstrating to us all that class is permanent. Seb,Greenwood,Kear and Livett were stand out. I still think that we’ve yet to know Livett’s best position, but while we are short of outside backs,he looked good in the centre. Better,in fact, than either Kear or Costello had. Leigh ran out of gas but,as against Widnes,we can only play what’s in front of us. Hopefully the coach can show a bit of consistency with his team selection

Do wonder if Escare will get back into the side at all. Is more of an attacking FB than a last line of defence. If thats not Marshalls game then agree should try to move him out. At least Kear another option at 1 and certainly a better defensive option. If we had our 1st choice 3/4's playing then feel we will be well clear of the bottom spot.

Think Jamie Shaul is injured but if not could he be a loan option as Connor nailed on now at Hull @ FB.

I suppose playing guff for the majority of the match and winning easily is all you can ask for.
Happy for the win. Worried about the state of the performance for the future.

Atkin changed the game , organised everything and distribution was spot on Looked full of energy and confidence once Sio scored , hopefully gives the whole squad more confidence for next week !! Brown ran the game from start to finish. He's got his leg right so he can kick, lots of tackles and set up a number of tries. Atkin came on when they were tired and added some zip round the ptb. Not as strong as Ackers but added value What really surprises me is our defence; sat back on their heels and compared to us at the ptb Leigh looked dynamic. Few odd decisions again.

Marshall said pre match that he wanted to tighten up both the defence and discipline... Well I think he got one out of two tonight.
First half was as poor as I've seen for a while. Attacking threat virtually non existant from both sides. Too many gaps in the back line and we got exploited twice.
Second half Leigh's legs had gone and we took advantage, but this will be the easiest run out we will get all year so we have to build on this.
Thought Brown, Livett and Atkin were stand out tonight. Questions over Patton at 9 for me. Just not sure what he gives us.
Anyway, onwards and upwards.

I have to admit that as a team we do look poorly coached at the moment. Our attacking prowess and ability to score comes off individual pieces of skill which works against the lesser teams such as Widnes and leigh but is so easy to shut down for the better teams. We don't seem to run many set plays and lack any form of understanding as to what to do in certain areas of the pitch, hence the abysmal last tackle choices we make. For some reason we also seem to lack control of the ball in daft areas and early on in the tackle, where we seem prone to offloads/Hollywood balls. I would love to see the stats and especially our Completion rate as it most be bottom of the league. For me, if Danny Orr is our supposed attacking coach then he needs his wages docking as he's currently stealing a living as we are playing as a bunch of individuals who need direction and coaching.
This has to be addressed and surely Marshall sees this as a weakness, otherwise his length of tenure will be decided by this.

Just thought we looked better when Atkin came on Atkin came on 44 mins when we were 6-8 down , organised the PTB , called the runners and plays which then allowed the forwards to dominate more - maybe Marshall played a blinder and put him on when Leigh were tiring The extra space then gave the backs more room to play and then the tires came - for the first half we looked slow and out of ideas until we got the momentum

Totally agree about Atkin and he’d played well against Widnes, too. Patton is the enigma. He comes with a very good reputation and he’s playing 9 in the arm wrestle but he’s not showing anything at all. Don’t think it’s lack of confidence!

I said after the Catalans game that it was a resilience problem and not being able to defend a mistake. Yesterday, while we technically poor, we did show that resilience and determination to grind out a win after going behind which will give us confidence going forward. The rugby side of it will come in time. Yes, it will has been awful to watch so far but confidence breeds success and winning ugly like that could be just what we need for our mental attitude. We need to remember that we have a brand new team, brand new coaching staff implementing brand new ideas. Look at what Watto said about Huddersfield on Thursday:
"There's always a process to change things and you can't chase it. People lose their heads and start trying to chase and change things drastically, and it's not about that, it's about continuity. You've got to build it. It's baby steps really, a baby doesn't just get up and walk as soon as it's born, it has to build the foundations before being successful. It's the same in rugby, people think it's dead easy, that you can just buy players, put them in and you should automatically win. You can't, it takes time. It takes time for me to understand the players and know the players and you only truly know that when you're playing. Pre-season you have Covid at the moment so you have interruptions and go through things differently, but you only know when you start playing and that's how you figure out which players are the right players."
This is equally true for us.

The only thing is that when Watto says that I believe him. What Marshall says I'm not sure I believe he can deliver it yet

After seeing Atkin do well at 9 I’d like to see Patten and Tui in the halves with atkin and Ackers interchange 9. Thought Kev did well last night but with one eye on the future maybe give him a rest for the Cas league game and bring him back for the 1/4 final.
