No Brown for me. He just looks like the years have caught up with him. A new halfback combo needed.

No Brown for me. He just looks like the years have caught up with him. A new halfback combo needed. I think so. I've always been skeptical of Brown in the past, but acknowledged how well he played last year, albeit not the whole time, but was more positive than negative. I think maybe this year is a step too far. I know it's only a couple of games in, but you wouldn't even know he was playing if he wasn't named on the team sheet. I'm not expecting miracles and I think he has a lot to offer us, but maybe in a different role off the field, as like anyone in his shoes, life catches up. I think Brown could do a job for us as a squad player filling in this year. I think we need as a team to be looking who is going to partner with Tui for the rest of the season and beyond.

Agree regarding Brown at 36 he is way past his best and whilst we all appreciate his efforts last year this year he certainly is not the future. Tui stepped up today and tried hard, I want to see Patten get a shot with him and regain confidence as a 7, his natural position.
We desperately need size upfront be it Lussick, Roberts or Greennwood. We got smashed today by Hull with too many forward of a 2nd row stature - hope these lads (Lussick, Roberts or Greennwood) get a runout. Lannon is very much a liability and needs dropping end of, if we play Livett we need size in the other 2nd row spot be it Greenwood/Pauli or Roberts.
To full back - we need Escare to play or try another option. Kear is not the answer nor is Sarge. Even Costello is a better bet.
My biggest fear v Widnes with Marshall is that he does not have the ability to make right decisions - rest those players who have not performed. He dropped two today (Pauli and Inu) we were crying out for given the size of the Hull team. Also when Patten is on why let Tui take kicks? Its insane and piss poor game management. Hope we see big changes against Widnes.

I don't really understand the Pauli decision. I think he's been very good over the games I've seen this year. He looks leaner and hungrier than I've ever seen him, so it baffles me a bit with regards to dropping him. There may well be other circumstances that we the fans are not privy to, I just hope that RM isn't going to knock that hunger out of a player that has struggled to attain it during his career, especially seeing as he seems to have found it.

Its vital we beat Widnes Doing so,and blooding players is relatively difficult I hope the coach achieves it As regards Pauli his stats must have said something we cant see,but we can see that Sarginson isn’t a full back

Widnes drew 30-30 away to Newcastle today. The Chemics/Vikings were 30-16 up at half time.
Apparently Jake Shorrocks was v good for Newcastle 😳
Next week I’d expect a tight first half but we should have too much in the end.
It would be good to let some of the fringe players have a run out but I think we need to choose as close to first 13 as we can to help get the combinations going

And I hear young Connor Aspey had a very encouraging game for Newcastle too. Played 60 minutes, defended well, good distribution from what I’ve read

When are Lussick Greenwood Addy and Burke due back? Assume Sarge and Taylor out this weekend.
Although I think it's possibly not about individuals but structure. We all knew with Watson what was going to happen, bit boring at times, but can't see the structure at the moment. Attack seems really disjointed, but two of spine have gone.
Positives; midfield tackling seems more resilient. apparently he's developing individual skills and more expansive game; but that'll take half a season to show Is he trying to run before he can walk?

I think the disjointed attack comes from a few things. Organisation from key players isn't where it should be and being far too flat in their efforts to hit line balls. With every team working on the pace of their defense as a key component for success it isn't surprising why we have scored so few points when you combine all of these elements.
While I think that we have improved the technical side of defending, the fact that we have to do so much is paying heavily during matches. As a team you can't give away so many penalties at key times and/or in key positions and expect to be in the game come 80. Add on the personal errors by players which also seem too high for a competitive team and I think it shows we have a way to go yet before we see them click.

For me this is the only actually concerning aspect of the first two games -- we look utterly devoid of ideas in the pivots and completely incapable of structurally breaking down the opposition. Time to let Patton have a crack IMO. All the others issues I've seen can be addressed with personnel (being selected in the right position) and time.

It's all fine now as, unlike the start of the season, I'm fully prepared for the inevitable disappointment. Normal service has been resumed.

Looks like Kev Brown will be banned for the Widnes game anyway. Picked up a one match ban for a trip

In this league if you don’t score points to create scoreboard pressure, then you’ll concede 20 points in every game because defending for 60 out of 80 minutes is just not feasible. On attack,it’s a running threat from full back that we lack In defence it’s the left side of Kear Brown and Livett that needs fixing. Hopefully.the injuries and suspension will help him find his best team
