Although I agree about the ref, I think SRD's go forward cannot be put down to off side, that's too simple for what went on.

I'm still feeling a bit flat after our game, also a bit dispondant to after watching all our so called rivals come out of the blocks firing and showing a lot of heart, yet we came out a bit poorly drilled and lacking in desire. I know it was saints but the difference between the match and the Wigan one was massive as we looked so devoud of ideas and our only trick against a team we supposedly should have some inside knowledge about was to be aggressive with their kickers and leave it in a bit. Not too impressive and a bit of a grubby lazy tactic tbh
However, as mentioned its still early days but I would hope we see a marked Improvement for the next game.

Kilop it's a team game and it'll take 6-10 matches to get 'the team' going.
We competed really well but sadly it was individual errors from outstanding players Inu, nightmare, first pass, first catch, try opportunity early doors, never ran; Sarge in my view never a fullback, dropped balls, positioning, high balls; Addy unused to playing the hooking role. Most of their points came off our errors.Together with some bits of poor reffing; that 2nd try a joke.
Looking at the positives: our defence in midfield seemed better, we did try new passing moves, pack looked better than backs, solid and Ormondroyd, Wells, Livett looked SL standard, Pauli, lost weight and becoming what we all think he can be
Let's face it that Saints team has been together more or less for 5 years and a number thro their amazing Academy, with v few changes, nearly at full strength and they're fit, well drilled, great players. So a decent show until the last 10 minutes. A score line of 19-10 was about what we deserved in my view.
Looking at the games so far Saints are at least 30 points better than all of them inc Wigan

Out of interest which of our rivals impressed you? (would be interested to see who you think our rivals are as well) Leigh managed to lose to a poor Wigan team missing probably 7 or 8 starters despite giving it a decent crack. Hull KR were dominated by a fairly average Catalans team and only got back in the game when Child decided to give them a leg up with a number of baffling decisions. Didn't see the Leeds/Wakey game so not able to comment on that one. So I'm not sh*tting a brick on playing any of that lot based on round 1 tbh!😁

I'm more bothered by the desire shown compared to all those mentioned, as we seemed lacking in it which I though a new team would want to come out firing and impress a new coach. I wouldn't say anyone got well beaten other than us. Hence we are bottom.

I know what you mean about how much better the other games have been but we were the only ones facing the comp favourites at full strength (bar Coote). We looked a lot better against Wigan because the team they had out was nowhere as good as Saints. Wigan had a full pack out and we did well against them. We also did well against the Saints pack. I think that is the least their pack has dominated us in the last few times we we be played them. The difference is Lomax was outstanding and put us under pressure all game. Add Fages and Roby playing well and it was always going to be a different game. Add Hastings and French on top form to the wigan team we and Leigh faced and they’re very different games. Plus we made a number of unforced errors against Saints that put us under pressure from the first minute. There’s not much between everyone below full strength wigan and Saints so no wonder the other games have been closer. We didn’t play as badly as Wigan, Leigh, KR and Catalans did for chunks of their games. We defended better than Wakefield and Leeds did As I said before I wasn’t too impressed with our attacking tactics but I think that was largely down to Addy being slow in distributing the ball at dummy half. Not singling him out but watching it again we are noticeably slower there than we were last year and than Saints were Disagree about the grub tactics. We wrestled a lot better than we did under watson. Disagree with what others have said about the referee but that’s not unusual 😊

I didn't have any problems with the reffing. I thought he was a bit loose with offsides. If he'd have pulled both teams early on instead of just us, I think it would have been a better game. Difficult for both sides to play attractive RL when both are slowing the PTB and wrestling well on top of a shallow ten. Hence why the tries tended to be from kicks/mistakes. If Saints hadn't had to wait until the 65th minute to be penalized we'd have had a better quality game.
Apart from that, thought he had a decent game.

No reffing issues for me either in our game apart from offside rule being interpreted differently for both teams (some of ours were shockingly blatant tho!🤦♂️). Child was a bit cr@p in the Cats-Leigh game tho.

I’d hope to see Sarge back on the centres next week, these Hull outside backs are pretty sizeable we’ll need his defence outwide. Neither team have really impressed me here.

Nothing really to fear from Hull or Huddersfield. Hudds pretty poor but they will be a different team with Sezer, like they were last year. Hudds played v like salford over the last few years. 4 drives until you get to halfway then spread it wide when wingers drop back, inside ball for the full back but didn’t test the Hull defence much
Hull should have scored a lot more, loads of the ball and territory but didn’t use it well mostly. Sneyd was v good and looked like he’s built a good partnership with Reynolds already. Jake Connor and their outside backs were fangerous. Hopefully it will be a good game with us next week

If people thought we need catching practice after the game in Friday, you should watch Cas v Wolves. Toby King seems to be the only player on the pitch who can catch a kick!!

I didn't have any problems with the reffing. I thought he was a bit loose with offsides. I think that's what everyone was saying, more or less.
I can't agree about our game though. Marshall is right it won't define our season. As I said we will improve but the question is, will it be by enough?

I think you have been extremely harsh with your comments Russ. Having seen every game this weekend I think we will gradually improve to be a match for most of the other teams.
