Just watched it back, Liam Moore was worse then I thought, not just the play of the ball. Myler breaks up the field he blocks off Seb Ika in the first half from making a tackle. Inu blocked off by Lui on kicks and half our team appeal. Legally drag Martyn out? That is poor a standard of ref. It’s not going to change anything is it. We got to Wembley for the first time in 51 yrs I look at that as a positive. Put it this way Salford were drawn originally to play Saints so any of these discussions may not have even happened.

That would have depended,on what referee we had. 😊

Something just came back to me.
At the end of the game there should have been a scrum to Leeds (in pre bat flu days), with the rules we now have there was know way for us to get 6 in there to stop the clock.
Leeds just loitered and wasted I think 35 seconds, there needs to be a tweek to the new rules to prevent this.

In retrospect, from Wembley
We played a lot of our pack a few days before We couldn't train before that due to CV Leeds had a good length of time off, so were rested and sharper Think because of the above we were a bit tired and our game a bit undercooked Watto never moaned
We've been in two finals with two young refs Kendall a disaster, as he found out went he went with the GB team and was embarrassingly dropped The final ref, youngest ever, but inexperienced Generally ok, but offside a problem never addressed The ptb. Technically just about correct, but lots of other instances not penalised An experienced ref would have let it go as lots of others let go So why not Thaler say
The play We absorbed a hell of a lot in the first half, but no offsides given and no relief First try Leeds goalkick hit the post and it went over Inu missed one kick unusually We attacked and instead of holding the ball and creating pressure: the Evalds kick, one or two other panic moves gave Leeds the ball The last play; Inu slightly late coming in but turned in rather than banging his way to Welham Did he lose the ball or was it stolen In the QF and SF we've won in the last few minutes; Inu could have been the hero again, but not this time
So we were within a hairs breath, as they say. Fine margins. I think if the Final was this week and we'd trained together fully and rested, we'd win easily. But that's sport. I think we should be really proud of the way the team has played in the past two months, about the way Watto has conducted himself, and of being Salfirdians.
So how do we better this The City has no RL in the schools, why not Foundation? Absolutely essential as Blease keeps asking where's the new Morley, Betts Blease, Watto coming from? We have no Academy but a link to Wales Our opportunity is that we're the only SL Rl Club from Wigan to Huddersfield We are a Community club but in name only, no different from any other club, We have no benefactor, no big source of funds, rely on sponsorship, charity from fans So what's the answer? How do we get to the next level?

JJR. I agree with much of that. Not sure about the referees point and I don’t think we were undercooked.
But...
We do have RL in schools and the foundation recruit potential players for local community teams from there. We don’t do loads but not many schools have much RL anywhere now, tends to be through community clubs
We do have an academy. It’s Tier 3 based at a 6th form college, run by the foundation. It mixes education with RL so not a pure academy like Warrington Wigan and saints so they can recruit better than us from age 14, ours kicks in at 16. Conor Aspey and Luis Roberts are products of it. The first academy products since Nial Evalds.
There is a reason we haven’t produced a salford born/bred player since the late 90s. When we did have an tier 1 academy (before it failed the RL audit, had the funding pulled and MK decided to get rid) they were hopeless at engaging with salford schools and community clubs. The foundation has its problems but the pathway from local clubs is better than it has been for a long time

Give it a rest people are dying with it.

Even in parts of Cumbria. And Community Club rugby thrives. Is there Sky money to help with this? The City is like a backwater wrt rugby league, whereas once schools and community ripugby thrived. In order to go forward we need to raise the profile of RL in youngsters. Ask Morley, Blease, Betts, Watto

There was one thing I noticed about the game/final and I've avoided saying anything in case it just looked like sour grapes. And it was the mention of empty stadiums on the other thread that reminded of this. When the game was on along with the crowd noises they played "We're Leeds Rhinos". Now the question is did they play a Salford song at all ? I can't remember one but I was too nervous to noticethrough it all. If they did all well and good, and if they didn't that was unforgiveable. Did anyone manage to take their nerves and eyes off the game long enough to notice.
If you feel I'm being over sensitive well that's why I left it till now.
The thing is it's one thing Leeds doing it at Headingly and if the Rhinos' fans do it at away matches but it quite something else for the RFL to do it for them for whatever reason.

The story of the Kev Brown ankle injury was interesting at the end of all this.
