That's quite a disparity in salary cap terms of in v out. Saving money for later or for a big bid or making cuts? The seriousness of intention and our hopes for success might be guided by which one of those is the reason.

Last season Salford were comfortably below the salary cap , Watson & Sheens were more concerned with signings being the right 'fit' for the team & having a harmonious dressing room . it's actually 8 left to date and it anything we've troubling the salary cap even less. Having said that , last seasons team & performances were probably the best since we've been at Barton. 2013/14 proves spending lots of money did not equate to equally high performances.
I would suspect ' the virtually complete quote depends on the options to sign. No point handing out contracts if it isn't the right position / fit for the team.
Hardaker is a long shot , and a risk . and will be expensive.
we will miss Josh Griffin, but that is the Josh Griffin we signed from Batley, and he flourished into a crucial signing .

Logan Tomkins has signed a one year extension. Quite pleased with that, although I've a feeling it will lead to responses containing one or more of the phrases "muppet", "bang ordinary", "FACT" and "END OF".

The salary cap has reverted to being proportionate to income rather than being a flat one. Given our attendances last year were lower than Zak Hardaker's IQ, it may be that the club is operating to an even lower cap this season.

I think he has clearly developed his game since being on loan with us, then signing permanently. A one year extension is a good deal for everyone. Like Watson said, he does a lot of the unseen hard work and will be good to have him for another year.

He's also the Only ' Fully Working Tomkins ' . the other 2 down the road have dodgy MOT's

Think Tomkins goes under the radar and is one of those players I mention quite often who you notice when he's not there. Think next year he will raise his game as I have a sneaky feeling we might have unearthed Daryl Clarke mk2 in Kriss Brining. And wish the old gimmer a happy birthday for me Carnster, you must get him on here more.

In other squad related news, Ian Blease has suggested that's it for now, although the more observant amongst us would probably have realised that was likely the case when Jack Dearden tweeted that there were more signings in the offing.
Also, Zak Hardaker has joined Castleford on a one year loan deal. I think that's a good signing...for the other eleven SL clubs, that is.

I always thought it was related to income, and that's why it's always been a pathetic attempt to provide a level playing field.

Salary Cap to Be raised for 2017
SRD ' Could ' still spend up to the 1.85M . presuming a turnover of 3.7M including the Sky Money
the 1.85 M OR 50% is for the likes of Toulouse - Toronto or Oxford - whoever who want to squad build to aim to be competitive in qualifiers / progress up the greasy RL pole
my assessment was we were operating in 1.4M territory

So the squad will be made up of this so far...
1. GoB 2. Carney/Johnson 3. Sau 4. Jones 5. Vidot/Evalds 6. Lui 7. Dobson 8. Koppy/Murray/Tasi 9. Tomkins/Brining 10. Mossop/Griffin/Krasniqi 11. Hauraki/Lannon 12. BMM/Walnes? 13. Flash
Who've I missed?
When you look at it, it's a decent side. Although, I'd like to have a little more cover in the back row. The good thing is, the core of the team has remained which means they should be tighter as a group next season. We've been pretty quiet so far in the off-season, offloading a few that were surplus to requirements and replaced them with younger on-par or better players. I'm hoping that the quiet nature of things so far means we slip under the radar as it's quite pleasant to be not reading about constant speculation for a change.

I'd rather do it this way rather than the Doc screaming how brilliant we are from the rooftops and buy grafters over the prima donnas we have previously.
Agree about that squad looks rather solid, agreed another centre would be nice as would a strong running wide centre and I'm still thinking we need a kicker of genuine quality so I'd love to go for Josh Mantellato.
Really do see Vidot ending up being a centre, has the size (let's not forget before we signed him he was playing prop for the Broncos reserve grade team) and speed so in effect we have 3 huge bruising centres of which 2 can cover other positions in the backs and forwards. Evalds is a total luxury and have a hunch that Lannon will have a break out year and become one of the best English back row forwards in the league.
Would be nice to know which of the younger players have been retained to add to the first team squad, Josh Wood showed last season we have a more than capable back up for the halves and hooking position who is one of 'ours'.

Would be nice to know which of the younger players have been retained to add to the first team squad, Josh Wood showed last season we have a more than capable back up for the halves and hooking position who is one of 'ours'. Josh Mantellato and Gareth O'Brien have almost identical kick success rates (just short of 71%). If 71% makes Mantellato a kicker of genuine quality, then surely it does the same for Gareth O'Brien. Mantellato would just be a solution in search of a problem. Putting Vidot in the centre seems to be an option the coaching staff have been considering. We haven't seen enough of him to know whether he has the necessary elusiveness and hands to be an effective centre rather than just a big battering ram, but we have to assume the coaching staff know what he's capable of. The big "if" with Daniel is over his fitness. The injury he suffered - effectively one of his man boobs falling off, turning "the Meter Eater" into "the Nipple Cripple" - is similar to the one that kept Luke Davico out of the game for about 18 months. In fact, I think he initially retired, but then returned the game later. At the moment, the squad does look a bit short on numbers, so you'd have to assume it will be padded out with some of the younger players. On the positive side, with the exception of Josh Griffin, none of the players that have left the club since the start of last season played more than a handful of first team games, and I think the players that have come in (certainly Tasi and Mossop, with Murray and Brining being unknown quantities) are more likely to be pushing for a first team place than the players they are replacing.
