Just seen that myself. Not the news I wanted to hear. Its going to be tough cheering on someone who I have disliked for at least a decade!
Can't believe he said that he was joining Salford City Reds...

I hope he does well. I also hope we have a backup plan if he doesn’t.

He was an international a year ago. If Wayne Bennet rates him, he can't be that bad. And had a year's rest. Give him a chance. Watto will get him sorted and Brown knows the game backwards. Back up Plan? I thought we has Atkin & Jones

Don't really need a quarterback though, so doesn't make sense to me.
I'm on board with what the club is doing as a whole, and I'll be happy to eat my words but I don't think I'll need to in this case.
Not a great signing.
It's like all the positivity over the last week has suddenly ended up being a huge runny fart with this announcement.

Back up Plan? I thought we has Atkin & Jones Both hookers/utility players and neither are playmakers. I don’t want to start bashing him before he’s started and think his experience and kicking will be an asset but personally I’d feel more confident if we had another young 7 to learn from him.

If all goes to plan he will be a peripheral player anyway. Watson doesn't get many big signings wrong I think we need to trust his judgement on this one.

The only time Atkin has been utilised as a hooker is when he joined KR. He's always been an out and out 7. When he was given the chance the other year he scored about 5 tries and assisted in even more. He's not come all this way to Salford to be a utility player I can tell you that.

Been fantastic. With respect to Gil though, Brown is coming into a key position and role. He's rusty, injury-prone, and game-barren. There's going to need to be a monumental aligning of the stars for Brown to suddenly turn around an ailing career at its twilight after serious injury and little game time. This isn't about filling Hastings boots. Far from it, I'm a realist. It's about us taking a massive gamble on a player that's unlikely to return form shown even two or three years ago. We're going to ask an older more knackered version to turn back the years. This feels very much like a pre-Koukash type signing. I'll be happy to eat my words, but I can't see me doing it on this occasion.

Have a read of what Watto and Blease say about Brown on the site. Interesting.

Hastings will take some replacing and,in truth, there is no like for like replacement available for what we can probably afford. We need 3 halves and with Tui,Atkin and Brown we have the necessary skill sets. Watson will make it work. I am really pleased with this signing

I'm with Carnster on this one but hope to be proven wrong. Brown is one of those marmite players which polarises Rugby League fans.

Have a read of what Watto and Blease say about Brown on the site. Interesting. I did. There's not a lot there that fills me with optimism. I agree that his experience and knowledge may be beneficial somewhere along the line, but he can do that as a water-carrier. It's whether he can somehow get out of the downward spiral his career has been on, and whether an aging body can recover and stay healthy after serious injury. I've not seen many players rescue their careers at his age and after so many injuries.

Quite interesting we thought that Hastings had it all naturally but when you speak to them it was Lui guiding the show early on and guiding him. And why, because Lui was Johnathon Thurstons understudy and played alongside him lots of times.
I'm not a big Brown fan but he held Widnes together for years and his on field experience like Lui and Dobson will be invaluable calming the younger ones down and guiding the team thro tight matches.
I hope😉
