Sad thing is that Hastings is irreplaceable.
He had a quiet game by his standards last night but he still scored a try, made a clean break from our own 20 to the half way line (how i wish he’d seen evalds coming up in support) and nearly won it for us at the death playing with one eye. He’s an incredible player
I feel a bit sorry for whoever plays scrum half for us next year

does anyone think a. brown still has it, b. has he been brought in, in a more of a player/coach role and another will play at stand-off/scrum-half and he maybe plays at centre and back up to so/sh. like I said unless Watson thinks/believes he still has "it" . just my thoughts? what do does everyone think or am I talking crap?

You're opening a can of worms with this one Redwolf! Opinion is split between those thinking he's a shrewd aquisition and those who think he's past it. I fall into the latter category, but on the plus side, it means I can only be pleasantly surprised if it works out. I think there's merit in him being brought in with an eye on coaching if that's where he sees himself going. He would certainly be of help to aspiring half-backs.

Whatever your opinions on his talents, I think the plan is for him to be starting 7 for us alongside Lolohea at 6 next year.

I thought when Dobson went we lost a lot and struggled the season afterwards with Jack Littlejohn, great guy but not an organiser.
Brown was always a thorn in our side when we played against him, he kept Widnes alive for years. He's an international, Dobson wasn't, he's faster than Dobson, he like Dobson is an organiser, he was going to be the first choice for Warrington last year and Warrington struggled without him, and now they've brought in an expensive 7 to replace him.
He's not Hastings, but in some ways better and more experienced (Hastings control of the end games needs to get better)
I had the pleasure of seeing the great Alex Murphy, the best scrum half I've ever seen and he took Leigh to Wembley when he was in a bath chair, Johnathon Thurston, the best 6 ever probably played on one leg at the end.
Give him a chance, encourage him and you never know. It's his swan song and he wants it.

You're comparing apples and oranges. One is an ailing HB who's done okay over a career that is winding-up, the other two are one in a generation talents. I'll certainly give him the benefit of the doubt, after all, hopefully I'll be on here graciously apologising for not being a believer rather than feeling that 'I told you so'.

Missed the point Carnster, or I expressed it badly. Merely stating that ageing players still can offer a lot. Brown obviously not in the same class as either but is an ageing international and may offer a lot.
But glad you're giving him a chance.

If anyone wants to put Salford fans response to signing Brown in perspective go and have a look at the response of some Leeds fans to signing Gale! Dear or dear - think some of them would have been upset with Cooper Cronk. They are no spring chickens but him and Lui should make a decent partnership.

If Gale can keep his fitness then i think Leeds will have one of the best HB partnerships in SL next year - only Saints with Lomax and Fages arguably better. Wigan depends who they partner with Jacko

Saints could still do with a proper 7 but are the benchmark. If all goes well for Cas they’ve potentially got a very strong pairing for the future in Richardson and Trueman.

I think if Brown stays fit he will be OK. Alex Murphy on the other hand is the best scrum half I have seen who would a sensation in the sanitised game we have now.
