We're still learning as a club how to become consistent, and consistently good when it's required. The 'top' clubs all have better big game experience and stamina. These lessons are hard but sometimes needed. Look where Hull are after conceding back-to-back centuries this season. All the clubs in the top half barring Cas have had a thumping or two this season. I think we are also seeing the effects of a small squad and limited choices when it comes to back-up options, still being in the cup has also added extra strain. These have been a tough four or five weeks and not a brilliant way to build morale for the semi. Saying that, it will certainly keep them grounded and hopefully keep them focused on the job at hand. Bad day at the office. I think it's more than a learning curve. We have to admit it they are just a better team, well they certainly were today. What we need is an academy and someone who knows what he is doing running it.How many from our squad would have got in theirs I say three at best. And certainly not our half backs. If we want to win anything we now know what is needed.

& Still Dixon has a dig at Dobson. I felt team selection was poor today. I can only presume Carney was injured o/wise heads should roll. Wood - as I continually point out is not SL standard and his howler in the first half gave the impetus to Leeds who scored 4 tries before we touched the ball again. We missed Tomkins & Flan enormously and hope that Mossop & Warne are near to coming back. As was said by Carnstar - bad day at the office.

We needed to trade sets in that first half in those hot conditions but failed. Leeds respected possesion more in the heat and had better game management with a far superior kicking game. Leeds basically did to us what we did to Huddersfield last week. They got the momentum roll on us and tore us to shreads with quick play the balls on the back of us having to make far too many tackles. The Leeds Hooker Purcell was excellent and I think Salford would benefit greatly signing a nine with his craft and quality from dummy half. Could Carney not offer more in the short-term I ask? I don't want to single out players but several of our lads need to take a good look at themselves after that performance yesterday. They seemed more focussed on taking drinks or squirting water on their heads than playing smart rugby league.
Anyway a big test, a decent turnout yesterday and a sub standard performance to match. It's typical Salford, will it ever change? A group of guys behind me were saying it was their first match in a few years but they won't be rushing back after witnessing that drubbing.

I agree with that to a point. But the plays that killed us early in the first half were simple and quite worrying. Big lads running up the middle when in their own half, gaining 15 yards and then a quick PTB. It was like earlier in the season - we seemed brilliant at goal-line defense but poor when in open/broken play - same again yesterday. BMM and Hauraki fell off at least 3 tackles each that allowed breaks (don't remember seeing that from either of them much before yesterday) and so that 15 min period when the scored 3 quick tries and then after Sau got sin binned just killed it. Child didn't help, but the game was already away from us.
Shame about the fans that turned up that don't usually come as well. However, our next home game will be Super 8's and after the semi final. If we win that or maybe even put up a fighting loss (but let's not even go there) then I'm sure they will want to come again - this result will be in the dim and distant past.

I think it was a case of Salford being poor and Leeds playing very well. Their big forwards are great at offloading, especially Cuthbertson, and that essentially gives them a 7 or 8 tackle set every time they have the ball in hand. I also thought they were much quicker than us at PTB and we just couldn't cope with Parcell and his scampering runs. He's a real talent and a joy to watch.

First 10 minutes we controlled the game then conceded a try and appeared to give up. Some of the defending was diabolical and this was the most disappointing aspect as this has been a plus point this year. I hope our new signing gives the players a boost. There were certainly a lot of tired looking players out there today

I said this a few weeks ago and this just highlights it even further - we are growing as a team and a unit and have now signed up most of the core of players for next season. But inconsistencies will remain this season and for the rest of it. I honestly think we are just 1 season behind Castleford. They finished 6th last season and went out at the quarters of the cup. If we make a couple more signings now we know we're in SL again next season, just imagine what we can do!
Not looking too far in front though. There's still plenty to play for in 2017!

There were certainly a lot of tired looking players out there today The game for me was lost between 10 and 20 minutes. They just starved us of possession after about 10 minutes and we didn't have any answers to reverse the momentum. I think most teams would capitulate against Leeds in that heat having to defend almost continuously. Discipline, poor handling, several missed tackles and a couple of dubious decisions lead to our own downfall. I agree we did look tired but that was caused by us having to defend too much due to making too many errors. Full credit to Leeds they carried out their game plan far better than we did.

Sad that Dobbo pass was ruled forward just after we had scored in the second half. Could have been 34-18. Very dubious decision.
Think Ben needs a rest.
Amazing that an admin cock up (Watson interview on the Leeds site!!) put Lannagan on the bench instead of Murray. Also heard Carney fit so why was Wooods preferred to him?
Think they have to rest Ben and a few others on Friday. Murray Carney Hasson Wood Bibby all should play to give some of the others a rest. It's a squad game, if they're on the books they're good enough.
So bit tongue in cheek, but a start
Evalds Bibby Sau Welham Johnson Obrien Carney Hasson Tomkins Griffin Hurarki Jones Krasniqui
Murray Woods Bent Lannon

A fit Carney should have played on Sunday Mr Watson. Bad error of judgement.

People blaming the half backs for us conceding 36 unanswered points in the last 30 mins of the first half.
Good lord.

People blaming the half backs for us conceding 36 unanswered points in the last 30 mins of the first half. Good lord. The half backs had no platform because we had no possession in the first half due to several players making too many errors. It's a vicious circle because mistakes lead to fatigue and fatigue leads to conceding points. Concede points and it leads to more fatigue and more points conceded. etc, etc. I also question the decision to play two inexperienced hookers when we have a Dally M winner who can play that position sat in the stands. Perhaps the decision was based around defence with Flanagan one of our best defenders around the middle absent with injury? I'm just totally perplexed why we signed Todd Carney because he never gets selected. I can understand not dropping Lui or Dobson because both were excellent last week but it was a perfect opportunity to give Carney a run this week at 9.

Does seem astounding to have a player with such incredible talent not even on the bench, I remain to be convinced by Wood, he tries but he just doesn't look SL standard to me.
