Ok, here we go: I was a little bit underwhelmed when Ian Watson was first announced as head coach & I was disappointed with a lot of the signings early on. Anyone else admit similar feelings ? I am happy now to admit I was wrong about both. After Fridays result there's no denying we are serious contenders this year. Yes we were in MPG last year but I maintain we were a top 6 side other than the points deducted so it's no surprise to see us up at the top again this year.
On a separate note I still call us Salford my eldest says Salford City Reds and my younger 2, who are enjoying their first year of coming call us Salford Red Devil's the kids insist on using the full title of the team they watch, funny how a name sticks with you.

Totally with you. I have contact with a lad who played under him at Swinetown, who didn't really rate him,but stressed that he was a strong personality. Full marks to Ian Watson,in appointing good people round him and here's hoping he goes on to great things with Salford RLFC ( even though his mother had no time for us when she watched him play )

Still early days, but my goodness, after watching the highlights against Catalans, this is some team we have here. Strength in depth as well. The team of the mid 70's was a great team. This team has the potential to be just as good, if not better.

Was talking to a SRD fan yesterday, who said he was in conversation with Marwan, at the cats game and marwan stated it would be Salford & manchester Red Devils. As it appease everyone I don't know how reliable this info is but I still don't like it

Was talking to a SRD fan yesterday, who said he was in conversation with Marwan, at the cats game and marwan stated it would be Salford & manchester Red Devils. As it appease everyone I don't know how reliable this info is but I still don't like it I don't really see the problem if this is the case. We will actually be gaining the name of Salford BACK from where it is now and as long as Manchester is worded after Salford I don't see what the fuss is. You can't blame the club for wanting a broader appeal locally. I'm not going to argue the merits or pitfalls of whether a change will actually do anything, but I'm not sure why Salford fans would think Salford & Manchester Red Devils would be a terrible thing. Certainly better than Manchester Red Devils, but not as good as Salford Red Devils. If the Club is determined to go ahead and change things then surely this is the best outcome out of what's available? The fact that a lot of Salford fans have been stirred from their slumber on this issue is a good thing and needs to keep rolling. It has certainly been felt high up in the Club and I think all the Club really wanted was the people of Salford to actually become more passionate for the Club. If this turns out to be an exercise in galvanizing the populace then it may just be a stroke of evil genius...

This compromise would be stupid and completely pointless.

This compromise would be stupid and completely pointless. I agree, but it's got to be better than losing Salford completely.

Yes looks good S&M RED DEVILS. Opens up a whole new clientel Yes! Just think of the merchandising opportunities. Studded leather belts and restraints, chokers, whips. What on Earth would the club shop look like?

Yes looks good S&M RED DEVILS. Opens up a whole new clientel I can be the new recruiter, lots of contacts over on the continent might be interested in rugby now ;-) On a serious note this is the only compromise that I would accept, as Carnster says we gain Salford back in the name so that one in the win column, the Manchester being tagged on the end is neither here or there, if it generates more advertising dollars then good for the club in the long run. Still find League Freaks Twitterings earlier rather worrying.

Why not go all way and call us Salford Manchester and Lancashire Red Devils even wider appeal. As soon has he puts Manchester in the name he will then loose more than he gains.

Why not go all way and call us Salford Manchester and Lancashire Red Devils even wider appeal. As soon has he puts Manchester in the name he will then loose more than he gains. But why? Are we not two cities united? Closer now than at any point in recent history. Most Salford fans happily travel to watch Man Utd and Salford without any internal hiccups, so how on earth could tagging Manchester on the end cause people to turn their backs on their club? I'll be interested to hear your reasoning on this, because I can't fathom it to be honest.

I will have no issue with being called Salford and Manchester, I'm a Manchester United fan so it would be a bit rich if I boycotted. Let's face it, it's better than becoming just Manchester.

I suspect adding Manchester to the name now makes it easier to drop the Salford name in a few years time

I suspect adding Manchester to the name now makes it easier to drop the Salford name in a few years time Or just drop the Manchester part when we're all inevitabley proved right that it won't make attendances increase. If attendances do increase it will be down to success on the field and more Salfordians and close neighbours taking notice and coming down. It will have rock all to do with Mamchester being added to the name.
