Everyone is entitled to their opinion on crowds but I see no evidence to back up optimistic claims. I wish that wasn't so, and I hope I'm proved wrong.

I hope you've got a permit to have a horsebox attached to your taxi.

Would love to know how (if any) market research has been carried out into this, can't see that any has been as in today's instant electronic reporting of everything news of it would have surfaced long ago.
Something else that has occurred to me is would the stadium owners provide marketing at the stadium and in the general area for the Red Devils?
Doubtful

There's every chance you're right, but I think it's probably fairer to say there's no evidence either way. We simply haven't seen how the people of Salford respond to a successful team, because most of us haven't seen one in our lifetimes. Note, I'm not for an instant saying that people will automatically turn up if we start winning stuff.

I am amazed just how some people have suddenly resorted to using tactics that saw the Scarlet Turkey go down the pan with some of the rumour mongering that is currently taking place. We have taxi passengers who may or may not be a Salford fan being used as a way of guessing what may or not happen in the future. We have fans?who are rubbishing the chairman, CEO, and other staff over rumours that are just that, rumours. I have spoken to almost a dozen regular Salford supporters over the last few days and the split is eleven live in Districts of Salford whilst one lives in Lymm and without exception everyone is happy the way this season has gone and they are all keen to give the club chairman and the people that he employs chance to improve matters even further both on and off the field. The group loved the Willows and are getting used to the AJ Bell and we all would like to remain as Salford but we would all prefer to wait and see just how the clubs proposals if and when they are disclosed turn out before jumping to conclusions. I have had occasions to contact the club and usually get a response, if I don't get one through the normal channels. I have then approached people on match days or on visits to the stadium and sorted out my queries, I have never and would never contemplate advising people to visit a club official at there home address which is pathetic. The walk from the ground to our car after the Widnes game was one of the most satisfying for years and everyone was over the moon with the way things are going without once piece of negativity around. At the Leigh game we had four relatives with us, yes we do try and bring somebody, one was a Notts Forest fan who could not get over how good the atmosphere was and he was amazed at the end when the players went all round where the supporters were and posed for photos etc and the were lifting youngsters onto the pitch for more photos, this is positive news that the club deserve and has never seen the Notts Forest chairman anywhere near there fans.

Valid points, and to that effect I'll leave this re-branding alone now as it's just becoming a downward spiral of negativity when we don't need it.

A SIDE ISSUE : one to make as crowd numbers have been raised
"on September 11th, 2011, 10,146 people felt they could identify as Salford fans sufficiently enough to turn up for the last game at The Willows. Similarly, on February 16th, 2014, 7102 people turned up at the AJ Bell to watch the first game of the new era"
How many were Salford fans? I know, in the group I was with, 50% were not but were there because of the historic occasion. So why suggest we could get the 10146/7102 back as it is a not an indication of the fans we have lost.

For the record, i'm from Denton as is my dad and we have missed a handful of home games over the past 12 years. No affiliation with Salford other than the club.
Changing the name to Manchester whatever won't help.
I've taken all of my mates over the years to either the Willows or the AJ Bell and none of them are interested in ever going back. I never chat about RL in the pubs because absolutely no-one gives a crap apart from me. It's futile honestly lol

It's futile honestly lol Its a strange one this,I have lived in Salford all my life, currently in Walkden, surrounded by United,City and Bolton fans many of whom used to take the mickey whereas now the majority do seem to be taking an interest judging by the comments and questions that I am getting this year, they are certainly reading up about us and listening on Radio Manchester and many follow the Superleague show each week. And dont forget if every United, City and Bolton fan that I know actually paid to see their teams play United would get a million , City 750000 and Bolton 100000, as I tell them, I have paid to watch United more than them and the last time I went Harry Gregg was in goal. Some have been to matches and some will be coming to more once the football season ends, so they say. I agree that changing the name to Manchester(if we do so) will not help generate any spectators in fact it could lose us some, what will increase our support is if we carry on playing as we have this season and win something.

This is all very hypothetical and fairly pointless at this juncture BUT the only compromise I think I could stomach with all this nonsense would be:
Move INTO a central Manchester location but retain the Salford name for AT LEAST 3 seasons. If the crowds are still duff (and assuming the upturn in form on the pitch continues) after that and the business / financial model is completely unsustainable THEN AND ONLY THEN explore the option that dare not speak it's name(change).
Ideally I'd love, and can actually sense a top-4 finish, cup final appearance and regular 6.5k + crowds at Barton and the Salford name to return to the badge. Patience is required from Koukash and co but it's just really odd that this has surfaced at the exact point that the team is looking stellar.

I'm not suggesting they were all Salford fans, more that they were potential fans. They were people who were sufficiently interested in Salford to come and see them play their final game at the Willows. To me, that shows there is a certain level of latent interest in the club. By way of comparison, I'm not sufficiently interested in football to have visited Maine Road for Manchester City's final game there, not Burnden Park for Bolton's. Those people attended once. Can they not be persuaded to attend again?

Can they not be persuaded to attend again? The biggest issue I find with Salfordians (I'm a Salfordian and it annoys the sh1t out of me!) is there are, quite frankly, a large proportion of them that talk sh1te! The amount of times I hear Utd & Salford "fans" claim not to be attending games due to the cost it's untrue. Whilst I appreciate it isn't cheap, these same people will quite happily spend all day in the pub spending £30/£40/50 behind the bar. It's all about priorities and, for me, whilst I like a drink, if it came down to a straight choice between watching Salford Rugby & Salford City or spending all day in the pub then it's a no brainer! Luckily I'm in the position where I can attend games and have a few pints but if that changed then rugby would come first. Likewise, how many times do you hear locals say that they can't get a job "because all the foreigners have taken them"?! As much as I love my city there is definitely an excuse culture within a large percentage of the population. Put it one way... If we get to the CC Final this year, I bet a fair few thousand that can't afford to attend regular matches find £100 or so to pay for their trip to London!

I'll be taking you to court for slander.... Judge RInder seems to be the "go-to" these days.... Latest Auntie Beeb article on the Manchester debate..... www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/39817781Now I have no issue moving a couple of games to say The Manchester Stadium (or whatever it's called) or say Edgeley Park to test the water on what Gtr Manchester based interest we may get, but the club needs to realise that some fans who claim they can't get to Barton will likely not be able to get there either. I'm sure a few Manchester/Stockport locals may rock up out of interest but those numbers are likely to be offset by any current fans who can't/won't commute to the other side of town. By all means then offer those newbies a 3-game ticket back at the AJ Bell, at say half price, and let's see if they get the bug and are willing to travel over to Barton for games. Wigan have plenty of Bolton, Chorley, Preston based fans etc so it might bring a few hundred more through the gate.

I’m really concerned about all this recent talk of a name change to Manchester. I just can’t for the life of me see it doing anything for attendances other than reducing the clubs fanbase rather than growing it. Is the fact we have been named for Salford 138 years prevented people who like RL from Manchester attending? It’s still the same distance and still their local Superleague club isn’t it? Does the same in reverse prevent thousands of people in Salford attending football at Old Trafford or the Eitihad? No. I appreciate we aren’t getting the kind of following the club needs and that a Manchester branded club has potentially more profile to create sponsorship opportunities but I can honestly see many people just walking away.
If a club has no historical link and soul it just won’t have the same appeal to the existing supporters. Personally one thing that has kept me interested over many years is the potential of one day seeing my hometown club Salford playing at Wembley or in a Grand Final. If the name change was to happen then that dream would be gone and my interest in the club just wouldn’t feel the same. To be truthful it probably wouldn't feel much different to watching Leigh Centurions and give me a reason to end my association with the club.
Some of the reactions and insults I’ve read on social media are crackers but I do fully understand the passion, strong principle’s and patriotism that many supporters have. I’m hopeful after reading the statement on the club website that supporters will have the opportunity to express their views and lets hope that a better solution can be found.
