If this change of name goes ahead, who fancies running a brand new team with me? Do I have to play as well? I've got an injury record worse than Sam Tomkins so I'd be a waste of salary cap space tbh!😂 As for a name change I'd seriously struggle with it and I see no evidence of how a Manchester named team would suddenly double/treble our attendances. Steady progress on the field for a couple of seasons and (god forbid) a Challenge Cup Final appearance would do wonders. Also getting some highlight reels up on electronic billboards around Salford/Manchester wouldn't go amiss. I'd suggest contacting the likes of Showcase/Odeon etc and seeing if they're willing to do any partnership deals with the club offering joint rugby/cinema discounts. How good would a 2 minute highlights reel of BMM, Carney and Junior smashing the living daylights out of opposition players look on a cinema screen?!

Things don't just happen! To promote the club take effort. The club are trying off the field the best they can on limited resources. On the field it's spot on. But that hasn't happen by luck. I really believe, us the converted worshippers need to take the good fight on. At the next fans forum we need to get a list of volunteers who will help with simple things like posters going up, promotion stands in places like Trafford Centre, bury town centre, Manchester City centre etc cast ner far and wide. The club needs help and I believe with have people out there who will spare an hour or too to help build and preserve this club. Volunteers organised by the club to target areas. What's do people think? Why limited resources though? How much are we paying Todd carney to watch from the sidelines, spend some of that on some proper marketing. I know it's his money to do with as he wishes, but for all his moaning about salary cap and marquee signings he could easily spend what he wants on marketing I've said before we are doing more than we ever have in terms of getting out to schools, clubs in the local area, but they need to do more. Posters, radio adds, I know the roi might not be great but we need to try something now while we are actually delivering on the pitch Must say this is a massive worry, it's senseless and needless. Should not be allowed to happen. Part of me also thinks the lower attendance figures are on purpose to make this look like it's needed. It won't work.

The Doc appears to have put this particular rumour back to bed again on Twitter.

The Doc appears to have put this particular rumour back to bed again on Twitter. If you've seen the same thing as me, it's a RT from 2015. Nothing yet on the current rumours.

Really bad idea. Changing a nickname is one thing but giving the club the name of a neighboring city is not on. We play in Salford and most salfordians are keen to point out to people that they're not Mancunian. I know I have to often due to my accent. Easy mistake to make and it doesn't offend but I do feel the need to point it out

If this change of name goes ahead, who fancies running a brand new team with me? I think you'll get plenty of takers because I suspect a lot of people will suddenly find they've got nothing to do on a match day if they're anything like me: long-term season ticket holder, missed only a handful of games in the last 30 years, but wouldn't cross the road to watch a team called Manchester. I can't see that the name is the problem rather than the 40 years of bobbling along at the bottom and a stadium that isn't particularly accessible to home fans. (I know that the car park isn't as bad as myth would have it - certainly no worse than the KC Stadium, or Wheldon Road or the Richard Dunn Sports Centre at Bradford - but public transport links are poor. If we make the not unreasonable assumption that a fair proportion of home fans would like to travel by public transport, links from some of the districts of Salford away from the 67/100 bus routes - like Ordsall, Swinton, Clifton, etc. - aren't good, and you're looking at journeys in excess of an hour, with at least half of it being on foot. That's not an attractive proposition to anyone other than the diehards.) All a name change would do would be to alienate a substantial number of existing fans while, I suspect, the number of new fans it would attract could be counted on the fingers of one hand, and one of Abu Hamza's hands at that. This could turn out to be a "New Coke" level of debacle, and, notwithstanding the club's frequent attempts at self immolation in recent years, they couldn't be that dumb could they? I mean, could they? I don't think they could (do I really think that?), and wonder if this is just a "use it or lose it" plea/threat to those former fans who haven't returned yet. Let's wait and see.

A poll should be set up to see how many would stop following a newly branded Manchester team.

The lack of patience from Koukash & Blease is infuriating. We've been absolutely shite for 40 years, now on the back of a decent half season they think there should be 7000 coming through the gates?
A name change alone would do nothing without a successful team and a massive marketing push anyway, both of which would be just as effective under the Salford banner. I'll nail my colours to the mast here and now - if this isn't just a rumour and comes to fruition then I hope it goes massively, spectacularly, breathtakingly tits up and somehow leads to Koukash going bankrupt and winding up behind bars.

Great to see MK adding a bit of clarity to the issue with his latest Tweet, which is a quote by Alexander Graham Bell:
"When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us."

Actually strike that is pretty much always his own worst enemy. I'll openly say it, move to Manchester and drop the Salford tag and I'll cut all ties instantly.

I wouldn't stop going if the name was changed as I would still want to watch a rugby side but I wouldn't like it and I'm sure it would have a negative effect on attendance figures rather than bringing in the hordes
