Carnster... excellent summary and agree 100%.👋 I'll be the first to hold my hands up and admit that I've made derogatory remarks to an opposing player in my younger days (I'm sure a few here can relate to this). I've also made accusations of them having "relations" with another member of the same sex. I was young and immature and it's quite frankly ridiculous as A) I have plenty of gay mates B) my mum is gay! Am I/have I ever been homophobic? God no, more a case of big mouth trying to create a reaction without even considering what I was saying in the heat of the moment. Whilst it's abhorent that this has happened, the player, the club and the RFL need to make something positive come out of this. If it's working in tandem to support anti-racism ventures in sport then great. If it's Carney going into schools etc during his ban and highlighting issues of racism etc then again I'm all for it. I'm a season ticket holder at Salford City and we had a certain Lee Hughes play against us a couple of months back. I'm sure most on here will be aware he served time for killing someone as a result of drink driving. Not sure how I'd cope if the club employed a player with that kind of conviction hanging around his neck. I'm confident the club will do the right thing on this one if Carney is willing to make it publicly known of his remorse and proactively embraces his punishment/rehabilitation and puts things right by his actions. Maybe a final written warning on his conduct with anger management counselling etc would be the best move with immediate dismissal for a repeat offence? Takes me back to one of the greatest bits of fan V player interaction ever. Fan in the shed to Ikram Butt who was stood shivering on the wing at the Willows. "You should have stayed home in your corner shop, you'd have been much warmer there" Ikram Butt, did nothing but laugh along as he found it genuinely funny. Horrible in today's environment but at the time pure comedy gold. You'd hope that if the club do stick by him (and I can see arguments for & against this) they should very publicly involve Carney in some form of community race role to help show his remorse and the clubs stance on things like this.

Now I have to be careful not to make this sound the wrong way but it's funny (funny/strange rather than funny/haha) what sort of verbal abuse appears to be a definite no-no, borderline, or generally overlooked when on the pitch or in the stands. Usually the 3 main areas of verbal abuse are race/sexuality/gender right?
What Carney has admitted (racial abuse) has always been a big no-no in my lifetime (born late 70's) and I honestly can't remember the last time I heard anything racist on the pitch or on the terraces.
Similarly, homophobic abuse is far less prevalent these days than it would have been 25 years ago. You still hear the odd fan spouting vile homphobic abuse at players but again it's pretty much (rightly) considered completely unacceptable and from my experience bery rarely happens.
Now on to gender.... how often do you hear fans/players accusing a player of being "a big girl/big girls blouse" or other variation of a gender slur? My girlfriend even called me a big girl the other day and I've heard female fans do the same!😂 Whilst we've come a long long way since the dark days where racism/homophobia/sexism was pretty rife it seems there are still areas of abuse which are considered more/less offensive than others in society.
Maybe not worded the best but I'm hoping you can see my point!

Worded well enough.
Carney was in the wrong and has put his hand up; we move forward knowing that for him the matter has not been settled.
I fear to have my comments of 60+ years examined in detail: like many on here, the cultural conditioning I had, has meant that I am now aware of deep phobics that I have to fight. Yes, that makes me faulty. I hope my constant guarding and suppressing the instinctive features of my upbringing bring some humanity to my dealings with others. That's why I am not screaming for his dismissal. Without contemplation, maybe that could have been me. I also know that some commentators (not on here) get a feeling of superior satisfaction from demanding punishment. The club should not pander to these smug indulgent wishes.
Well done the wise heads on here.

Worth noting that the ban on Carney is for the racist part of the abuse. The RFL chose not to contest the assertion that Bailey is a ****.
