Mmm lui at 13? His defence has never been that good tbh but i guess he'd be able to cope with it more up the middle with the help of the forwards. Would definitely add a different element but would it be too much going on?

What worries me is that Carney is only here for a year, we drop Lui and he gets the hump we could by the end of the season be without either. We can't drop GOD as he's been a revelation, think Dobson is a must at 7 and can't see Carney not getting a gig with the money he will be on. GOD Carney Sau Jones Evalds Carney Dobson Kopczak Tomkins Mossop BMM Hauraki Flanagan Griffin Brining Lui Tasi Worrying lack of forward power on the bench, unless we go for Griffin playing for 60/80 minutes in the front row in the Gallen style. Carney won't have come cheap though so you've got to play him, not only because of this but he is also a class above. Didn't Lui only sign a 2 year deal, so in theory he won't be here next year?

Yes I know that was my roundabout reasoning, surely the coaching staff are going to play Carney as he will be costing a fair bit and why bring in someone of that quality to be sat on the bench. In theory they are both only here for this season, so the question is who would you rather play and upset? Granted we haven't seen Carney yet and don't know how he's going to behave / progress with injuries but surely he's got to start ahead of Lui? Given the choice next year for a further extension who would you choose?

Keep it in your pants kids. Ian Watson has given a pretty strong hint that Todd Carney won't be making his debut this weekend ( here). Given last Friday's performance by the half-backs, I think that's the right decision. Assuming that Watto isn't fibbing.

This only becomes a problem when everyone is fit and performing, which they are at the moment. A poor game or injury will sort the pecking order out automatically. I'd choose a fit Carney over Lui at the moment. But if Lui keeps putting in strong performances then he deserves to keep his place.

I think it's fantastic that we're talking and debating about players like Lui and Carney and who will start. Beats the Hell out of 'What's the Doc done now?' etc....
I think Lui will start and Carney will be on the bench on Sat. For the rest of the season though, I think Lui will struggle with week in week out games (he dropped off considerably and was basically a walking tubular bandage by the end of last season). If we have a cup run, plus the Easter round of fixtures, what a choice Watto has to rotate his players. Better that than struggling and playing players out of their positions.
Even with this tough set of games at the start, the wins will come soon and we'll be top 8 at the end. Yes, that's my heart mostly and I've got nothing to back it up with!!! It's exciting though and I hope it will be a good supporter turn out this weekend. I'd take a win and me being the only one there right now though!!!!

I'd be surprised if Carney starts on the bench. I think this season clubs are only allowed to make six substitutions each game (with exceptions for obviously injured players), and the emphasis will probably be on having forwards on the bench so they can be spelled. Putting a half on the bench seems an unnecessary waste of a bench space, particularly when you consider that there's already a replacement half on the field in the shape of Gareth O'Brien. I think it's more likely we'll see the halves being rotated in the coming weeks.
The squad for Saturday should be announced today, so all may soon be revealed.
I agree talking about the team - or the sport as a whole - is much better than talking about Marwan. It's why it's best to stay away from TotalRL. Their CSI:Marwan department is currently running a full obsessive hand-wring about him saying something about raising the cap or the overseas quota or something. No links have been posted so we don't know what he's supposed to have said, but it's not going to prevent the same people saying the same things over and over again, like a big old Marwanophobic echo chamber.

I remember reading an interview with GOB in the pre-season where he said he saw himself as a squad player at Saints but among friends at Salford. If that's the attitude Watto has created , with success (which somewhat depends on luck), we will attract players. We might end up with more headaches.

I remember reading an interview with GOB in the pre-season where he said he saw himself as a squad player at Saints but among friends at Salford. If that's the attitude Watto has created , with success (which somewhat depends on luck), we will attract players. We might end up with more headaches. I talked to Flash Flanagan a few weeks ago and he said exactly the same thing. Almost felt frozen out towards the end, but in Salford it's a real team ethos.
You can see that on the field and off it actually. Excuse my essay below but it helps illustrate my point (eventually):
I went for a run round the ground for a charity (I mentioned it on here before - apologies to go on about it) but the people I was running with wanted some words from Flash and some of the others in the team and a short video for the charity website/Facebook page etc. So under the West stand - inside the ground - they set about trying to find a suitable background to stand in front of and do the interview. There were bloody Sale Sharks posters and banners up everywhere, but nowhere to be seen was an SRD sign. G. Griffin nipped to reception, got a key for a store room and they pulled one of the corrugated plastic signs out that had the Devils logo on it, (past the hundreds of litres of bottled water!) propped it up on top of a bin and did the interview! Funny as fook, but the team were laughing and joking together even with the receptionist and the cleaner who told GG what key he needed!
Basically to me it seems that they aren't only talking about team spirit, they are living it and it was great to see.

That's really good to hear. Long may it continue!
As much as I'd love to see TC play this weekend if he's not ready it's the right thing to do.
