Can't see Tompkins playing as his ankles knackered and out for a few weeks.
I genuinely think we can give them a good go. Always a few weird results first 4 matches and think we will do them

Even if Tomkins was available I wouldn't put him straight in as he hasn't had any game time, get him to Fax for a couple of games.

Think as the first game of the season this is more open than if it was mid season, the fact that Wigan have the WCC the week after they might have their eyes slightly on that.
I hope Brinning can do the full 80 but think that's unlikely for a first SL game, think if Carney arrives fit enough in time he will be on the bench so no Wood so Flash might take on the defensive duties at Hooker.
I can't wait to see Bateman and Mossop go head to head, would be very surprised if Watson doesn't have people wind him up as he does seem like a hot head and even more surprised if he doesn't get a card of some sort.
Would feel a lot more confident if JJ is fit enough in time, but I don't want to see us rush him back only to put him out for longer.

Hauraki just confirmed he's out for 4/6 weeks so it really is bare bones time.
If JJ isn't fit then we've got to play Krasniqi and Lannon with Walne on the bench, bit late for a replacement in unless Adam Tangata could be brought in on the dual reg thing from Halifax as weren't we interested in him anyway and he already has the visa in place.

There is a crumb of good news for the Wigan game in that Mcllorum is out injured, think he would have been given the task of intimidating Brinning, with him out he has more of a chance to shine in his first. There are straws and I will clutch at them  |

How come the Kick Off is 1:15pm? I'm guessing that United are playing at 3pm, so they're making sure that they don't clash? Is it a bit too early to suggest pre-game and/or post-game beers? |

The Salford man's problem is to do with scar tissue in his foot apparently. Our mole says he will be sidelined for at least a month". It's a big blow as he's looked very good in pre-season. |

The front row feels weakened without Griffin but I think he needs to move into the back row with all the gaps. He went well playing wider out v Hull and I wonder if Watson tried that with the injury problem in mind.
Krasniqi can also do a job in the front or back rows so we think he needs to be on the bench. I'm not entirely convinced by Lannon yet but think he's the best option
We could go with A Walne or Murray instead of J Walne on the bench but I think we need a genuine back rower on the bench so I gave Jordan the nod. I wonder if he might start rather than Lannon given how much more experience he has got but I think Lannon should edge it
Wigans back row is very impressive and I worry about how our makeshift one will cope but I think we match them pretty well in most other parts of the pitch. Should be a great game
