I do not think we will bring in any new players now at this stage of the season. I have made my thoughts clear on a new forward signing being required but I just cannot see it. I see this either as 'No funds' or the club lacking the desperation other clubs have to be top 6 and making signings happen (KR for example). As usual our recruitment is smoke and mirrors, a few rumours, Wigan have announced 3 players ahead of next season? What are we doing?? I think bar Partington our recruitment this year has been poor, we need to make smarter signings moving forward.

I think if we keep our better players MTR then we have little left for a big squad…we’re still above clubs with greater budgets
With this squad our performance depends on the fitness of players; we had the spine out and now our 5 or 6 best back row players so we are surviving. Ithink the performances against Leeds and Leigh considering our injuries were good, but some strange reffing bad luck and ill discipline cost us.
My fear is if Rowley gets fed up and the Club gets another Marshall

Rowley is going nowhere he likes at here and lives in Salford.
Our lack of quality in our signings (Partington aside) for this season has been an issue, your correct we've invested in a few stars to build around them. We need more quality in the forwards. Our best forward King is out of contract this season.

Was good yesterday watching Leigh’s forwards interpassing, supporting each other and playing as a pack.
I know they’ve not had the injuries and we seem to have a patched up pack each week, but perhaps now that’s something for Rowls to work on…it’s said Partington is a fall playing loose forward/ middle but their 13-was brilliant…made at least two tries
Hopefully we can move on some next year..Addy Greenwood Borouh Ormondroyd….the problem is older forwards. Dixon Sidlow Gerrard all carry injuries from a long career so will be in and out of the squad…Longstaff needs to bulk up me thinks

We cannot keep signing players like this. Wigan have signed young forwards which is great business. I'd let Longstaff go back to Wire he is quick but not the type of forward we need.

The issue with Wigan Saints Leeds Hull Warrington etc is that they have all the young forwards vis the academies…I think Rowley can only sign what his budget allows and there are few forwards, never mind young ones, around
We have managed to keep Dupree against the odds, Luckely I understand went for over the odds payment…both players we found from the lower leagues…where are all these young players who aren’t attached to other clubs? When we get good forwards other teams snatch them..BMM Dudson
Remember we do have that Quota Spot and Rowley I would think would like to use it…seems it can only be down to one thing…funds

Leigh are not second place in Superleague for nothing. Agree with JJR about their pack working together and , for me, Asiata was their most influential player. Still, two home games in two weeks each lost by two points. We should have won both. On Luckley, I think I saw him at the game yesterday. Maybe mistaken identity.

It’s a shame we don’t look like investing in some fresh bodies. My concern is are crowds will drop back end of the season if we keep losing and with the fixtures left it won’t be easy. Also think we will miss out on the money from getting to the playoffs.

Over the matches I've seen, Luckely doesn't look the same forward except on the odd occasion,

Since his elevation to up and coming superstar, neither does Dupree. Needs to concentrate for the full time he’s on the field

As for the quota spot and monies available then we desperately need another forward although I cannot see it happening with 8 games to go this season. We've made some poor signings this year Partington aside. Sidlow is past his best, Dixon has hardly played, Hellewell has improved as the season has gone on, he's a good squad player, Longstaff has been a fringe player and whilst Stone has been steady he is not spectacular and certainly not a guaranted starter. In my opinion these signings have not been good enough to take us to the next level. We lost Taylor and Luckley last year who would have improved our team this year. Rowley and Blease sign our players and I think they've got it wrong this year, we've too many 2nd Row options that are similar if you take away Watkins and Wright (The latter who has had to move to Prop to cover injuries). Rowley needs to have a think about the players he needs for next year I'd argue we need a powerful prop and a strong running 2nd row as our priorities. FWIW we have Greenwood who I believe will not play for Salford again (I do not buy the he's not fit line). Like with Greg Burke last year he was not selected and fell out of favour, I believe this is true of Greenwood's situation. Rowley has his favourites (The boys who have played for him before), if Greenwood is not a better 2nd Row option than Addy/Hellewell/Dixon/Longstaff then I am at a loss with Rowley's thinking. But like all things it comes back to finances. If we go with what we've got for the rest of the season then I am happy. If it means there is more money to spend next season (with key players retained) and we can sign two or three players that will truly make a difference. Both Rowley and Blease need to get it right in the off season with signings and retaining Cross and King.

Yes MTR it’s all about squad size when you get injuries; every Club goes through it, even Saints, butLeigh have been the fortunate ones this year
Watkins, Wright, Dixon, Greenwood, Gerrard, out last week…Addy Stone Ormondroyd not fit properly yet but played (Addy and Stone out on their feet) and Bourouh and Longstaff not yet SL standard but yet we should have beaten Leeds and Leigh both of whom were nearly at full strength.
I’m sure there’ll be a bit of a clear out at th3 3nd of the season…so far we have a tough prop and a fb/ winger signed and an overseas slot. Rowley did say it was a 5 year project….pity the Club can’t afford an Academy…but that’s long term…and we have to get the bid right with resource
Leigh don’t have an Academy or a second team, but we at least are trying to build the second team to shadow the first…but as you say it’s about money…and…??

A good post, MTR. I get the feeling that Messrs Blease and Rowley are already focussing on next season and that may be sensible. I hope so, because this season is looking like a write-off now.

I agree to an extent that this season looks unlikely to yield success. At the start of the season I was critical of our signings bar Partington and Stone. If we can continue to get decent home gates in for the few remaining games, have benefited from the funding raised and our new commercial sellers who have sold out the match sponsorship packages then I'd expect money to be available. Then its up to Blease and Rowley. BTW Platinum Dinning was also full v Leigh.
