I should add that we aren't benefitting from other dispensations such as home grown talent in the top 25.
The new SC rules are a joke to create a further divide between the traditional top teams and everyone else. They even lowered the cap hit of a home grown marquee player from 75k to 50k... the average wage is 82.5k. How is it fair to have Welsby, Lomax, and Makinson counting as a combined 150k on a cap? It's a joke when the purpose, as stated on the SL site, it to ensure that player talent is spread. It isn't. All the rules we have brought in are to ensure the status quo.

If we could develop our own home grown talent then we’d be benefiting from that too, not that we can afford to spend more anyway
Personally don’t think we should be stopping clubs who can afford to spend more doing so just because we can’t, it should inspire us to do more

If that's the case then remove the salary cap. Don't have one to create a mask that we want a fair competition and for the dispersal of players when we clearly don't. This season is the closest it's been and we then introduce new rules to create a bigger divide. American sports and the NRL are interesting leagues because of a fairly implemented cap which ensures player talent is dispersed. If we want a league like a bunch of those in football then just remove the cap... because that's what we have now.
My point is more that we have a cap and it has a stated purpose. It doesn't meet the purpose. It never has done because it isn't equal and all we've ever done is add rules (rules that only require a ridiculous 7-5 vote) to make it more unfair - measured against its purpose.
Then we add another mask that it's to stop talent drain. Garbage. We've had two marquee players and dispensations for home grown talents and players still leave for the NRL for various reasons. They still have more more, it's a far better league, and the lifestyle attracts some players. Those things are still true.
RL would garner far more interest if the league was actually interesting. I've barely been interested in years, I just watch Salford and ignore the other games. This season I've found myself far more engaged in the league as a whole.
Teams like Warrington, Catalan, KR, Huddersfield, and Leigh won't always have benefactors. I'd guess Wigan, Saints, Leeds, and Hull FC genuinely bring in enough cash. It's a model that is unsustainable as shown in RU and football. The sport should cut it's cloth accordingly. Instead we have a system where wealthy owners can vote for rules that favour them in creating a system where they have an advantage. I thought it was just as ridiculous in the early Kouckash days, this isn't because we don't have cash.
Obviously, my issue is the cap doesn't work but it works great in other leagues I watch (NFL and NFL). Remove it instead of pretending we want a balanced league. You could even just increase it so some teams can spend more but without it being a stupid amount. Why not make it £2.8 million and forget dispensations which are hugely bias. For example, you can literally have £1.2 million worth of players count as 150k on a £2.1 million cap. We also, indirectly, give home grown bonuses three times over. 1) Only the top 25 players count on the cap. So do Wigan, Saints etc not already benefit hugely from that by having a larger squad (30+) built on home grown talent? 2) There are dispensations for 'standard' home grown players within the top-25 3) Home grown marquee players only count as 50k (currently 75k) on the cap, even though a player like Lomax could be earning 300k - 400k like he may do in Oz.
The cap is a joke.

Sidenote: is it a bag things or players are going to the NRL?
I don't think so. We had forwards go over there and be successful and we've match Oz and NZ in the forwards. We just can match them 1-7. The more of our players that go over there and succeed, the better, imo. It'll be great for our international side .
Plus when a player goes over there, it gives another player over here a shot.
