This may be the ale talking after 3 days up in Newcastle, but I've honestly not seen anything to suggest we can't go anything but really close in both competitions. Catalan the standout but everything else is so close to call. Get the best 17 we can week in and week out and we could well be on verge of seeing something really special

The more I see of the six again rule the more I think it's simply a means to keep dominant sides dominant like an extension of the SC regs.

Delighted with yesterdays win. Really important that we keep racking up the wins to stay in touch with the top couple of places and with saints starting to find form behind us. Could do with another big win or twice to help our points difference (by far the worst of the top 7) but I’m happy with the wins however they come. To be 2 points off top spot at this stage is amazing. Well done Hull keeping Wire closer to us and Cas keeping Leeds well behind us. Shame Hudds and Wakey couldn’t do us a favour too but they were always long shots! Much what I thought given the results. Hudds looked plain awful worse than Wakey given their playing staff.
Although some on here regard Cas as poor I hope SRD don't make the mistake of thinking that's the case.

When we have our first 17 we are tough to beat. Our defence has in the main been excellent and the lads really dig deep and our attack really hasn't hit it's straps yet. Having Lafai back is a huge boost in that regard and we just need a few more passes to stick. We could have had 40 against Hull KR and I've no doubt we would have if we had the attack from the back half of last year. We've dug in and beaten Leigh twice away and not many teams will win there - Warrington and Saints both lost. We beat Catalan with a ridiculous defensive effort and for me they have been the best side this season and dealt with a lot of injuries. We've found a way to win games where we haven't seemed up for it (Wakey and Cas). We had a real dig but ran out of juice against Wigan and should have won. We should have beaten Warrington and I do blame the ref's performance for that, he was shocking. We were off against Hudds at home but had players playing limited minutes. Saints was disappointing but good signs were there. Hull were on a four game win streak coming into last week and they beat Warrington today but we never looked like losing to them. Overall, we can be really proud of how this season has gone. If we stay healthy and our attack gels I think we can put 30+ points on any team.
It's a real shame that the powers have again gone out of their way to being in rules to benefit the bigger teams. The new SC rules are an utter joke. Here's the supposed main point behind it "To ensure that the competitions remains competitive and therefore attractive to spectators and commercial partners by preventing Clubs with greater financial resources dominating the competition and by ensuring a balanced spread of players among clubs"
In reality though, the change the rules to do the exact opposite by ensuring that the big teams keep all of their players and that clubs with greater financial resources continue to dominate.

Shades of 1969, yes it was, but according to the rules as officiated the ref was correct even though I don't recall him shouting held as quickly at other times.
Refs are rarely wrong even when fan memories, tricks of of the eye, the mind and swear words are involved.

I understood he’d said he thought ball carrying arm hit the ground I thought playing after held was ptb as ref has to be sure it was heard…but it’s gone and we eventually won

But…there’s a video ref again just like the not given obstruction try v Saints…same ref, same mistake, sadly

I'm not sure what defenders are supposed to do when you have full backs dropping to the height of a child after collecting the ball. Coote wasn't in danger of going out of play or behind his line for a drop out. He has as much responsibility to protect himself as a defender does. If he collects the ball and stays upright he gets tackled normally. Instead he falls to the floor, it's no wonder he had so many head injuries. They should bring the voluntary tackle rule back, unless you are trying to escape from giving the ball away via a drop out of going out of play.

If rumours are true that magic weekend might be cancelled why not try and see if playing the 6th round of Challenge cup in a similar format?
The attendances were woeful this year but maybe a weekend away would rejuvenate the format? Give lower league teams something to play for?

From what I’ve read ER, the whole format of matches is being assessed by the new Board. Those odd extra matches being thrown out etc
It’s amazing that so far we haven’t had a local team at home, that we’ve had lots of clashes with the footy, that we’ve had lots televised…something better needs to happen
One thing I find odd is that to me in the dark nights we possibly need to play Sunday (as that’s when people want some ‘air’) and when it’s Summer we could play Friday nights (as people go away or have BBQs etc on a Sunday)…but…

I think having a weekend of games is great but it's a missed opportunity for something different. For me I'd run a 9's tournament - attractive and fast, plus it creates an extra trophy for teams to play for. As it's a new competition it doesn't come under current TV deals or sponsorship I'd assume. So let get it on terrestrial TV for maximum viewership and not the highest price, and attract new commercial partners.
