Agree MTR the MEN is best used to wrap chips up. Lets see what Salford Council say as things progress, strange Gerrard is quiet, if it was a No then why just not confirm that. Since Brexit the only thing the Tories haven't suggested making a comeback from the grave is newspaper chip wrapping.

As a fan of both SRLFC and SCFC I have a foot in both camps, like a couple of others on here. As I've stated before, a ground share with Salford City would've made the most sense but the lease arrangement with Sale screwed any notion of that happening. There's no doubt that at some point the Co92 will get things right at Salford City and crack League Two and they will then need a bigger ground. As it stands, however, Moor Lane is more than adequate for the current crowds.
What I find laughable is a couple of the fans on the Salford City forum crying about "their taxes" being used to fund the AJ Bell for Salford RLFC. What they seem to forget is that until 8 years ago Salford City were a non-league team in the 8th tier of the football pyramid with crowds of around 100. Yes they've been around for 82 years but for 90% of that time 99% of Salfordians wouldn't have known they even existed. To make out that they should now take preference over Salford's premier sports team is frankly a joke.
I really hope the council can push through the purchase and we can make a proper go at making it our permanent home. The AJ Bell has got a lot of untapped potential and whilst the initial outlay to buy the stadium might make a dent in the council coffers I'm sure it can be turned into a profitable investment if managed wisely.

Agree with this post Salford Slim. It seems Sale have taken the councils decision well as they cannot be moved out due to their lease arrangements and Salford FC have been the ones more disappointed. As you state whilst FC's modest attendances have improved there is no guarantee they will increase further if they win promotion, most fans simply won't just drop lifelong support of Utd or City, I certainly wouldn't drop my Utd allegance to go and watch FC. At best FC are two years off needing a bigger stadium if they are promoted twice on the bounce. This was a interesting comment from Nicky Butt Nicky Butt said: "We are still in discussions with the council and Peel [over a move to the AJ Bell]. We are very confident that we will get it sorted out eventually but the time it has taken to get towards the answers we need has been difficult." I have a feeling that this saga will roll on well into 2023 before it is fully resolved.

This is what I asked and said I was concerned about. The council buying the ground clears up next to nothing except SFC and Sale interlopers can't get their hands on it.

The council have said no to FC and Sale but still need to get their plans approved moving into 2023. The thing here is that in the local media the angle is all FC focused rather than Sale, must be the class of 92 connection or a media bias against Rugby in general which is astonishing when you look at FC attendances to warrant moving to the AJ Bell. A big couple of months ahead - Can the council buy the stadium outright and what will the IMG Plans reveal. All this kind of detracts from the fact we've got our best squad in years to look forward to next season.

I've followed Salford RL since 1975, when the rugby team were given free season tickets at Irlam High School (something to do with the transition from Manchester to Salford-EU stuff etc) and its been my team ever since. My football team is Altrincham after seeing them play Everton in the same year, who are now full-time and will need to expand/move soon. Ground sharing with Sale RU is often muted, but also worried about (somewhere near the Sale/Altrincham boarder) by many fans due to the Stockport County and now AJ Bell situations. My point is a Sale RU ground sharing at the AJ Bell looks the likely outcome, but an uneasy one at that. We need to make it feel like home, our banners and flags up on match days (all Sale stuff to be removed), Salford RL signs to the ground (we are in Salford after all) and a place to be proud of. I do feel better after that

I find it hard to understand conflicting connections and interests.
If you have an attachment to RL, how is it possible to have one to ru?
It's not that this is impossible because liking sports is simply about preference but it's just history of RL and ru that informs you of so many awful acts and so much questionable stuff.
