Many thanks for all the improvements to the player's provenance Chaps! ('Don't like using the term 'Guys' - as it's just another infiltration into the English language from Trumpland, that I resent)
The Cup run that year was special: Saints at home 4-4 in front of a big crowd including me, I think we won the replay away 7-4? Wigan away in the next round - 18-6? I remember McNamara, the Evening News RL reporter, said 'he'd eat his hat' if we won at Wigan. And so to lose at Dewsbury away was a big disappointment. (understatement) McNamara died in the recent past and his obit. in the paper was positive to him as a person - any insights would be welcome.
Here's a question for Russ and all too- At which ground did Chris Hesketh make his Salford debut, after arriving from Wigan for £2500? Answers on a postcard please

Chris Hesketh made his debut for Salford in the Halifax 7s at Thrum Hall. It wasn't even a winning start for him as we lost to Oldham 8-10 in the first round. We went via the train to see just 16 minutes of our beloved team (8 mins each way I think) I'm not bitter though.
Has anybody read the Chris Hesketh biog 'Captain Couragous' ? A review or two from my fellow Salford fans would be great, before I shell out a massive £4.00 with Amazon for a secondhand copy.

I only started watching in the 80s so never saw the great team of the 70s but still really enjoyed Hesketh's book

Remember going to the Willows for a book signing when Chris Hesketh's autobiography came out with the sadly missed Eric Shaw (from prediction league fame on the old Turkey), Eric and Chris were good friends and too hear some of the stories that didn't get into the book made me wish I was around at that time in Salford's life. Brilliant book and true gentleman.

I find it interesting how Brian Snape bought success basically overnight. A great feat if you can do it.
