When I first thought of this I had the idea it would be easy to pick someone, needless to say it was nothing like, but any way here goes; which player from SRD's past do you miss in particular?
After 50,000 candidates I came up with Tex Evans but I also realised I missed him being punished and put in the pack to teach him a lesson, just as much.😉
Who is your choice?

Russ. For me it's got to be the late great COLIN DIXON.

For me, probably Paul 'Buffer' Forber. Not that he's the best player I've seen in a red shirt... far from it, but he was a character and always gave 100%. He might have been a penalty machine, but he never hid & played with his heart of his sleeve.
... oh and the opposition suppporters always hated him playing against them, as I did when he played for Saints!

Steve Blakeley for me, pre being ruined by Wire. He was in the team I first started watching and had that bit of magic that made me fall in love with the game. Vague memories of sidesteps, chips over the defence and a burst of pace.

Being an 80s child unfortunately I missed all the glory years, still some fantastic memories and players.
Hmm, loved tex, gibbo, Lee, Blakeley, sini, for the short time he was there Paul shaw. More recently malc is the one who springs to mind.
I suppose if theres one player who epitomises my early days watching the mighty reds it would be tex.

Vague memories of sidesteps, chips over the defence and a burst of pace. The chip over the defence, a rarely seen tactic these days for some reason which is a shame because it could produce some exciting results or blow up in your face which may explain why it's not used much these days

Jason critchley for me, would be an ideal replacement for josh griffin too. Failing that Gary Broadbent but not sure how he'd fit into the current squad.

For me, the player that sticks in my mind in my lifetime is probably Paul Shaw.
As a kid stood in the shed when he came on for his debut and knocked-on with his first touch to groans and shouts of 'Go back home!' from the faithful. We then watched a masterclass of raw talent and showmanship the likes I've not seen since. Maybe time polishes my memory a little too much, but that's the way I remember it.
What a talent.

This nearly killed me,as the saying goes, cos of who I had to leave out 😢 1) Charlton 2) Burgess 3) Hesketh 4) Critchley 5) Fielding 6) Gill 7) Banner 8) Coulman 9) Alker 10) Korkidas 11) Dixon 12) Blease 13) Prescott
And even now I'm having doubts. Why did ever I think this was just a bit of fun?😯 Go on have a go, you may find it easier than I did.

Dai Young, brilliant prop and incredible captain, the type of player we'd do well to find right now.

Really good topic this because fore me there are two types of player we fans like. There's the short term brilliant player who we wish played in a red shirt for a lot longer. Paul Shaw springs to mind in this category but for me the best player I've seen to date was Neil Baker. Then there's the fans favourite who may not be the best player in the world but they have qualities that far outweigh genius alone. For me they have to be a good player, make occasional boo boos but more than ever have a character that appeals to us fans. As a Salford supporter for quite a long time I think we were blessed with quite a few of the second type of "Favourite" in the 80's. The likes of Tex' Mickey McTigue, Darren Bloor, Peter Brown et al. But for me it has to be Gibbo. For me he epitomises the type player I miss most watching Salford. He came over as an unknown player with Garry Jack but I enjoyed watching Gibbo far more. He was a good fullback, wore his heart on his sleeve with the occasional blunder. He enjoyed an odd pint or two with the fans and entertained. Who can forget the reception he got when he was at Rochdale? Didn't he catch up with Martin Offiah in one game? Gibbo you are missed

Gibbo was a great fella. I spoke to him in the Willows when I was just a young kid but he took the time to ask if I'd enjoyed the match and if I played myself. I must have only been about seven or eight but he spoke to me as an equal. Really nice bloke who deserved the admiration of the fans

I must have only been about seven or eight but he spoke to me as an equal. Really nice bloke who deserved the admiration of the fans Gibbo came down to my local Club when I was a teenager to take a training session in Stockport. Along with Mark Horo (And a toddler Justin Horo), Peter Brown, and a player from Swinton I can't recall. Gibbo had been on the beer but took the session and was fantastic with all the kids and adults. Hung around afterwards for ages for photos. Top fella. A few years later I was involved in an Academy vs First team full pitch touch game during training. The academy beat the first team and I remember scoring a try where I supported the break and got a lovely pass that cut Gibbo out. After scoring I was jogging back and as I passed Gibbo he said to me 'You wont do that again you little C*nt!' Still one of my fave memories.
