It seems that as soon as our players get the recognition they deserve, they up sticks and go elsewhere almost immediately. Seems strange that Evalds actually stuck firm with us when he really should have gone to another club, and had the offers, rather than now when the club are actually making progress. It's a short career and he goes with my best wishes, but it feels like a kick in the bollocks.

To say that I’m fed up is an understatement. Earlier in the season the head of the board alluded to us possibly having a marquee player next year. I have heard that at the moment we are awash with money due to corona circumstances ie government money paying wages and low overheads. If any of this is true why have we let one of our own move sideways to Castleford. I always support players moving to increase their wages as theirs is a short career but please Salford RLFC don’t lose out to other middle clubs..Evalds has been selected for GB squad, been the second highest try scorer and played in a Grand Final how is signing for Castleford going to improve his future. We must secure our own players before we go gambling on unknown Marqee players. As far as I can remember the marquee player talk was an aspiration (pipe dream) for down the road if we continued to grow our crowds after the Grand Final. It didn’t happen. They were talking about a ‘big name’ for next year but it obviously wasn’t a marquee player as we are nowhere near the full cap. I’m as frustrated as you but we won’t keep players without bigger crowds or a money man - we all know this deep down whatever noises come out of the club. He’s signed a one year deal as well so it seems fairly clear that he just wanted out.

If it’s a one year deal, as you say he must have wanted out. Really sad state of affairs

I was really pi$$ed off yesterday, no sport for weeks cooped up inside and then this. However I now think fook him. Salford made him the player he is got him in the England squad and to play in a GF. This is what he gives back to the fans IW, IB and the board. With all the uncertainty in RL at present I also think this is not the brightest thing to do.

Was hoping this was just a rumour but sadly not.
I believe we offered him a good deal so be interesting to know how much Cas have offered him? Be surprised if its much more.
Also as some have said, he is good enough to play for one of the big guns. Cas maybe there or there abouts but won't be pulling up trees.
Sad to see. The worry for me now is who next.
Joey??

Knew it was going to happen but not this early, like previous seasons we move on and hopefully find the next best thing, we are Salford that's what we do

As a Cas fan I'm a bit surprised at this. Jordan Rankin has been going pretty well for us and we have 2 good youngsters coming through (the youngest is the best prospect I've seen for many a year) so I thought we were well served in that position. secondly as others have said i thought he would have gone to one of the big money clubs. I know we are losing McMeekan to Warrington after taking him as an unknown (along with Denny Solomona) and niether of those have shown any loyalty. Stay safe and good luck when we eventually re-start.

It's not the first tine this has happened, nor will it be the last. It's just frustrating - the great team which got us to the Grand Final has been decimated in a matter of months (I know we knew some were leaving before the GF, but still).
Hope he goes well over at Cas anyway, good luck to him.

He was offered a 3 year very much improved deal with a testimonial. To reject that to sign a 1 year deal at Cas is madness but you can see how powerful agents are in this game. Like someone else said of he'd of signed for the likes of Wigan etc i wouldn't be too bothered because he deserved it but to go to another club at or around a similar level is barmy.

We have Luis Roberts through the reserves coming through who's impressed so at least we have some sort of youth there in the next few years

It doesn’t add up. There’s a part of this story that will surely come out. If it’s correct that he’s only signed for one year at Cas,then why ? His own choice ? Paul King could perhaps throw some light on this, without divulging sensitive or confidential information.

oK,let’s speculate. Unless he has Australia in mind, which I doubt,he has a far bigger club on a promise for the year after next. Someone with a full back going home ??

My first thought was Cas are up to the cap next year but have promised him a bumper deal the year after. If he just wanted to bide his time for somewhere else why not stay here for another year?

I too am very sad he has chosen to leave, what do we always say, if they don’t want to stop let them go. We will find another.
