I wasn’t going to mention it as we’d won but just want to get off the topic of referees- does anyone still think Pauli is worth a spot in the team? I thought he had one good run when he first came on but that was it attack wise and defensively everyone next to him seems to have to work a lot harder to fill the gaps. The last few minutes of his spell he was struggling to get back ten as well. Not sure ‘being enormous’ justifies his place?

Yes,I do,otherwise too many samey forwards. He must be fit as he’s played big minutes in several earlier games. We need to use him better, part of the learning process

How many on here would like the Refs job.I am ruling my self out because of age and fitness.I rembererd years and years ago talking to a retired ref who had refereed at the very top and said I would not do it for a gold clock,he replied that if no one did it we would not have the great game of Rugby League. Any voulenters.

Pauli will come good when Brown and Lussick are able to work with him on a short inside ball near the line. He should be unstoppable. But Watto got his work cut out at the moment getting structures set up.
Wish our line speed was quicker in defence and we turned them over in the tackle but once systems in place. And in attack not all one man rushes And,,,,the half backs and wingers follow the half breaks And,,,forwards look to pass aka Flanagan .......but when we get, if ever, a settled team
Remember Pauli came into a settled and well structured team

We had a perfect opportunity to use Pauli like we did last year and how we used BMM. There was a PTB 10m out and we had good line depth and had some of the smaller Wigan defenders isolated on our right. If we’d had a crash ball with him running onto it at pace there was no way they were stopping him. Instead we went with a different play and then got Pauli charging onto it in the middle against their props. He was stopped a metre out and the ref gave a knock on at the play the ball. Not convinced it was but Pauli not the quickest at playing the ball so having him do it there with all the big defenders inches in front of him means they will always be set and able to get to the dummy half.

Yes not sure how they're using him at the moment. Seemed to be in the middle/ prop. He needs to come from 20 yards back on a crash ball at an angle or as a dummy but I suppose that will develop as the structures are sorted. Watson probably has too much on his plate getting defence, lines, basic moves sorted. And on Fri had to sort the prop change out at apparently the last minute.
We'll see but going in the right direction.

Don’t want to pile in on the fella but on the occasion we did just that - had him running at the line further out - he lost the ball didn’t he?

Cliff Evans and then Les Bettinson would have Mike Coulman in the centre position on the other side of the pitch from a scrum, then let him run at their defence.

Fancy dropping the ball Im happy that he seems to be improving all the time. When I first saw him at the start of this season he looked awful. So when the lads gel and the plays are expanded I'll see how he goes. Until then like Yates, Greenwood, Williams who are still settling in and making mistakes I'll give him the benefit and reserve judgement.

I’m not saying because of one dropped ball he’s no good - obviously. I just look at the likes of Greenwood, Yates and Jones who had less chances than him and were dropped. Bonitared pointed out why that might be and it makes sense but surely he needs to start producing soon otherwise being a big lad who offers something different isn’t going to be enough?

I was talking to one of our players on the flight I back last weekend He felt we are being too technical with PP. He said he just needs to be told to run hard at defences and we would see the best of him. It sounds simplicity itself and basically what most of us are saying on this forum.

I’m not sure they are - they seem to be saying he needs to be played a specific way while I’m saying he’s big enough to cause havoc anywhere if he puts his mind to it but doesn’t seem to be doing that (apart from a few moments against his former team Wakey). I’ll leave it there because I’ve got nowt against the bloke (thought he looked decent for us last year) and just wanted to change the topic!
