Now to the game.
I was shocked at some of the squad selection, Burke for me while a decent enough player couldn't possibly merit getting in the starting 13 ahead of Yates, we've bought an 80 minute work horse so why have him on the bench??
What you'll find is that last season teams knew we had 2 or 3 class play makers on the pitch at once so struggle to target them, this year without he who shall not be mentioned again we have at most 2, this was evident in the fact that Saints just rumbled into Lussick at every opportunity, I can see Atkin or Jones being on the bench next week (does maybe make you realise how well Tomkins played in the latter stages of last season) as Lussick was ineffectual for most of the game.
Can't see how having both PP and Seb on the bench works, both impact players who will come on and replace work horses, so for me it's either or or perhaps Seb on from the start and PP coming on to replace like for like.
Greenwood looks bang average, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and see how he goes after a few more games, don't personally think he gets anywhere near the 17 when Lannon is fully fit though.
I wonder if Wigan knew something we didn't with Sarginson, they're not known for letting a people of his calibre go that often, last night he looked a shadow of the player I'd been looking forward to seeing play, Welham too looked to have regressed a few season and returned to his turnstyle days. We need Inu in the back line somewhere, not sure where but just need his physical presence as Sio aside we look lightweight in the backs.
Tui, I just hope it's a bit of ring rustiness as he look like he was back in a Leeds shirt.
Brown was Brown, decent but not world class.
To put it into reality Saints will do that to much better teams than us, they are as good a British club side as I've ever seen and unlike some they seem to have done it without buying the best they can from the NRL. Pains me to say it but Saints double and a walk in the park to the Grand Final.
For us think last season has given us an unrealistic view on things, we'll be in a scrum of average SL teams looking to win the mini league for 7/8/9/10 spot.
