www.salfordreddevils.net/willows-wall-vote-for-your-openside-prop-forward/Ok so I'm bored lying on a beach in the Canaries while you lot all freeze your knackers off back home....😎 Who did we all vote for? I've gone for Rutgerson (tbh I've not even heard of half the options given!!). Quality prop and one of our best imports IMO over the SL era. Stapo was also on my shortlist but when I checked the stats it said he only ever played 27 games for us. Surely that can't be right?!

Charlie Bott for me. My Dad would vote for Dai Davies. He said he was as hard as nails on the pitch, but a real softy off it!

BTW, I'm in Tenerife at the mo. Bloody hot isn't it, Salfordslim? Lovely in Fuerteventura today John. Must be pushing 26/27 I reckon.😎 The young lady near me on the beach has a lovely pair of Bristols that she's sharing with the world as well!😂 (sorry mods if that's out of order!) Btw, any of the "front row brigade" want to explain what the difference between the two sets of props are? Surely they're the same thing... just the fat guys like Michigan that weren't good/fit enough to play in the backline....😉 I thought League props were the same and it's Union where the differences/technicalities come in.🤔

Huge differences in contested scrums as it allowed the hooker to get the ball.

This is the first time I’ve thought that the options they gave weren’t very good. David Young,Johnny Ward ? With the greatest respect to those selected, are they really in the same class as these 2 ?

I only ever played 2 positions in RL, prop and fullback, no really I just had a knack of plucking the ball out of the air.
Think the open/side goes back to pre split days as Union still has very specific players for each position.

Where was Baynes? I realise he was hardly an athlete, and definitely more of a cult hero but on his day he was superb - anyone remember ‘Baynes is fit to wear the shirt’? I wouldn’t mind if the alternatives were all world beaters - Stapleton was alright but no more and only played a handful of matches.
Highton for me - never took a backward step and his performance for Wales against Australia was something else. Underrated.

Doubt whether Paul Highton himself would expect to be on the list, let alone win it. This isn’t to diss an all round good bloke and tremendous servant to the Club. He would admit to not being in the same class as,say,Jonny Ward and many others

I voted for Stapleton, was an immense prop and if memory is correct wasn't it him that gave Alker a slap for bullying a junior player?
Big Red was an old fashioned prop in the modern game.

I did wonder that myself, he might be lumped in with the blindside.
Definitely my favourite Salford prop regardless of him being blind or open about it.

He was definitely on the other prop list as I voted for him. I wasn’t exactly spoiled for choice on that one though (80s onwards).
