This is the first time I’ve thought that the options they gave weren’t very good. David Young,Johnny Ward ? With the greatest respect to those selected, are they really in the same class as these 2 ? No that's why it's a joke.

If he his better than Jonny Ward or Ken Roberts or Mike Coulman or Ken Heliwell it must be a joke Dixon.... there's a slight problem here. Most people that vote won't remember those guys you mention above. I know I don't and I'm 41 so not exactly a spring chicken! There is very little footage about of our great players from the 60's/70's for example for a young fan to see how good they were yet if you're a Utd fan you can quite easily get hours of old matches where the likes of Best, Law and Charlton were gracing the turf at Old Trafford. Prime example of this is the team of the 70's. How many people on this forum (who aren't old enough to have seen them play live) have seen anything of Charlton, Hesketh, Watkins etc? I know I've seen a few fleeting clips on documentaries but that's it. I can only go off tales told to me by a mate who was brought up watching that team in his teenage years. I am not having ago.If they did it at OT and Best Law and Charlton wasn't on it That would be a joke.

Couldn’t agree more, with all due respect why would I vote for people I’ve never seen play on the say so of some senior citizen fans??? I do believe that in this Country there's Certain Generations that do believe that everything that happened in the Past was Better than what it is Now. It wasn't. People's perception of what they saw in there formative years and up to there 40s Differ from what actually happened. And not just what happened on a Rugby pitch but in there day to day life's. This is What I've read from a Expert in this sort of stuff. She must know her stuff as She's a mate of Brian Cox. So how do we know for sure that a RL Forward who won the man of the match performance 50-60 years ago was vastly superior to a Man of the match winning performance 5--20 years ago.??

Buzz bombs, small pox, V2 rockets, Oswald Mosley and the Blitz. All better than us ungrateful young types appreciate

No opinion on a favourite player is ‘silly’ especially when the fans under a certain age have never seen a truely decent team - we have different criteria. We’ve seen some terrible teams but there were still players that entertained and motivated us to turn up each week - are they any less deserving of our vote that the ‘great’ players that we’ve never actually seen? I personally don’t think so. So I’ll keep voting for the rag tag bunch of characters and grafters who I’ve enjoyed watching over the years.

But if the wall was a time capsule and 100 years from now someone hopend it up and said look at this,in 2019 they voted on the best Salford team up to that date. And this is it.It's not really is it when some players not on it were all international and medal winners. But like you say you pick who you have seen.I was talking to my uncle who his 99 years old who saw the great Lance Todd's team that was led by Salford's greatest ever player Gus Risman a man who went on 3 tours to Australia. And he still says was a better team than the great seventies side that I was lucky enough to see on a regular basis. But I take on board some of what you say because you are right.
