Listening to the Proper Sport podcast last night and - not for the first time - there was a mention that we are aiming to get in the top 8 and then look to immediately offload our biggest earners.
Whilst the thought of this a scary one, we have to be realistic here and think how much longer can we limp on as we are? We had a half decent season last year and yet twelve months later the crowds are as low as they've ever been. I fear for Friday night's attendance - I'm certain it'll start with a '1'.
Sorry to be so gloomy but unless we have a secret copse of money trees, how can we possibly continue on such small crowds? Can we afford to go down and regroup?

I heard that as well. Very depressing. What hope is there for us going forward if that happens?

Is there a link to this proper sport podcast? I've honestly never heard of it before.
Ian Blease was at the supporters trust meeting last night. Does anyone on here have a summary of what he said? I'd suggest this would be more accurate.
In terms of Fridays crowd, we got 1500 for a top 8 play off game vs Hudds last season, a few weeks after 5.5k turned up for a semi final, so maybe we're just a poor fan base. Lose a few and half the fan base disappear.
We'll get what we deserve eventually.

The harsh reality is that we don't have a future without someone to burden the financial shortfalls. We simply don't have the fanbase or the time to grow one. I think it's rather sad, but I think we're witnessing the death rattle of our club. Come the end of the season we will be lucky to still be around.

Hopefully this link should work:

It's a decent listen every week, the best RL podcast along with the Flangan and Wilkin one (Whippets and Flatcaps) IMO. Much of it will depend on your opinion on Garry Schofield, but I think he's alright and they've generally been complementary about the club (especially Watson) over the last year or so.
They commented that our support at Magic was good - especially considering the size of our home gates - and discussed whether it would be best for us to go down and re-group, arguing that we won't/ can't lose anymore supporters. I would be inclined to agree if we were still in charge of our own destiny at The Willows. As it stands, we are teetering on the abyss...

It’s self fulfilling prophecy time ! Can’t believe referencing the Willows still happens. I’ve no idea what the future holds but we’re talking ourselves into an early grave. As Estagnol said elsewhere, you can’t avoid despondency but,c’mon, let’s just get on with it. One of the moderators will doubtless come on and tell me this is the whole point of a forum but this isn’t discussion it’s almost an ‘in memorium’ book signing. Please don’t sink into the pit, let’s have some positivity

My positivity is looking at the table and seeing us 8th after 15 games in a 23 game regular season - all outsider predictions pre-season would have us 12th.
Reality is that after 23 games we will either hang on n the top eight then get battered for the following seven games or drop into the bottom four and face some games where we can be competitive. If there then prove to be 4 or more teams better than us in the middle eights, we become a Championship club.
I've supported the club at Championship level many times in the years I have followed them. If this is where we end up and the sale of our most valuable players means we avoid administration - so be it. I, for one will keep following the club I have supported for over 50 years.

Derek. Thanks for the link. Will check it out sometime.
Carnster, I respect your viewpoint and you're possibly not far off the mark. However this is exactly the reason that the fans should be rallying around the club for the remainder of the season due to potentially how important it is for the future of the club to finish in the top 8 this season.
If we end up in the mire financially people will inevitably donate to any appeals from the club, but why wait for this to happen? Imagine for example if every ST holder upgraded to VIP for one game over the course of the season. It would probably bring in around £50k for the club. If everyone took a mate in there this would double. Buy some merchandise even if you're never likely to wear it. It's effectively a donation to the club. These are things existing fans can do that would make a difference (and we might actually be able to sign someone).
Looking at Salfords website there is no match sponsor for Fridays game. £1500 for a table of 10, three course meal and framed signed shirt with website/social media etc promotion of the sponsor. Anyone on here own a business or know anyone that does? Let them know about it. It seems like a bargain to me. We could even get this forum as a match sponsor for a future game?
In terms of future seasons I honestly believe if we stay up this year a lot of the stuff the new board are trying to do will come to fruition from next season onwards in regards to the community work and the reputation of the club etc. They were thrown in at the deep end by the time the takeover finally happened and whilst I still think there's still quite a lot of improvements required I think a full off season with the supporters trust on board we could have a decent crack at next season.

I'd go as far as to say that Fridays game could well be the 2nd (MPG 1st) most important game for a good decade or more, lose and think there is a free fall towards the middle 8's and if some of the things I have been told are true then oblivion.
There will be at most 1200 there Friday and the atmosphere will be tetchy, start badly and I can honestly see the fans starting to have go at the club/board/Watson.
Win and reignite the chance of a top 8, that then just leaves the very real possibility of a fire sale of our best players to strengthen next seasons rivals when it will be 3 up from the Championship and 3 down from SL.

Isn't the RL transfer deadline before the play offs start? Which would make an instant fire sale of players virtually impossible.

Just seen this, absolutely fair play. This is our last chance, this message needs to get out somehow much further than it usually does.

Brilliant, as someone who's bought a season ticket but binned it and buys tickets for each game I can attend I'll dip in again and buy a 1/2 ticket and do my bit.
Wish to fook though they'd acknowledge my idea of people offering more than the value of the ticket monthly by DD, an easy and less impacting way of people doing their bit.
