If Salford's season unfolds like many are predicting - no more wins and relegation to the Championship - what are the odds on the RFL offering MK a franchise to run a team in Manchester. How does Manchester Bees sound?

Listening to the Proper Sport podcast last night and - not for the first time - there was a mention that we are aiming to get in the top 8 and then look to immediately offload our biggest earners.
Whilst the thought of this a scary one, we have to be realistic here and think how much longer can we limp on as we are? We had a half decent season last year and yet twelve months later the crowds are as low as they've ever been. I fear for Friday night's attendance - I'm certain it'll start with a '1'.
Sorry to be so gloomy but unless we have a secret copse of money trees, how can we possibly continue on such small crowds? Can we afford to go down and regroup? If the podcast mentioned is correct and we do move on the big earners from the club then looking at League Express last week there are a good number of players off contract that we could bring in to potentially replace the likes of Mossop, Jones, Vatuvei, Sau and Lui whilst bulking up on numbers in the backs area. Just on initial glimpses the likes of Jy Hitchcox, James Clare, Mason Caton-Brown and Iain Thornley jump out. Looking at more long term potential then Cory Aston, Jack Downs, Ricky Bailey, Liam Forsyth and Dec Patton would not be on enormous money and would be of the right age to mix in with the likes of Murray, Wood, Bibby and Nakubuwai as young talents to mould a team around. We do forget that for many years we were a selling club and survived most seasons by letting players go to a bigger club. The likes of Ratchford, Myler and Turner spring to mind. If we have to go down this path again then along with the Dr's amazing gesture we could begin to build from the ground up, as we should have done when his initial investment came into the club. Either way I will still be there to support my team.

As bees are now (supposedly!) dying out, it'd be quite appropriate name for RL fans in the area lol

Am I missing something with the debt/MK announcement ? He's only offered to write off the debt owed to him, which depending who you believe is nothing as he didn't pay off any of the debt when he took over so - What about the debts the club owe to others ? I'm sure there must be some I think there's more to this and it's just MK stealing headlines again.

He did pay off the old creditors but as a loan so Salford now owe MK instead of the previous creditors. Bit like our own personal Wonga. I think.. And yes it is a bit of a headline grabber but if we make it work at the club and get that chunk written off for nowt he can take all the headlines and glory he wants imo.

A great gesture whether its "just" his debt or all of it.The problem for me is all the plans are well meaning and probably great for a top amateur club but not for a Super League Club.Only one thing brings fans in winning rugby, trophies, excitement, high profile signings, regualar publicity. I have said this before but we need to bring MK back into the fold. However well the current board fairs I think the plans only sustain a Championship Club at best and maybe a semi pro one at that

As far as I’m aware it can only relate to the money he is owed directly, about £5 million?, and can’t relate to the money owed to the earlier creditors as they’re subject to a CVA I think,so it’d need their agreement. Finally,it obviously doesn’t improve our day to day position at all, where that’s all about the cash generated and not historic debt. So,a great gesture which comes with several caveats but doesn’t take us any further forward for the next few seasons.

I really hate to say this and pile on the doom and gloom but it was my first thought when I saw this and this is an open board. MK isn’t daft and isn’t one for throwing money away - I think he believes the club is going down the drain and he will never see that debt repaid. He’s not writing off anything - he’s facing facts.
As for this ‘offloading the big earners’, Add that to the shocking rugby we are being subjected to and the lack of any new players and it doesn’t bode well for attendances. I’ve tried to stay positive and done my bit to contribute/bring in new faces but I have to now agree with others - this feels like a slow death. I think the 1/2 season tickets and other initiatives are just to keep the club afloat until the end of this season.
Would rather have gone out with a bang last season and then restarted a smaller version of the club lower down the leagues.
Ah well, we soldier on for now.

If the debt is being written of it makes the club a viable going concern if there was anyone crazy enough to buy, had a private conversation the other day regarding this and if say for a ball park figure the club were £7,000,000 in debt who in their right mind would be a club with that kind of noose around it's neck.
Highly unlikely but at least there is a glimmer that investment or a buyer can be found now.
