Yet another must win game. Lose this and we are in big trouble. On the plus side, amazingly we’re still 8th and if we can get the win (and the other bottom teams lose) we can start to pull away again, but at the moment I just can’t see us winning a game. Hudds are much improved from when we played them at their place, whereas our form has taken a complete nosedive.
I feel bad for singling out players but there’s no way Olpherts or Littlejohn should be anywhere near the team on Friday, so far off Superleague standard it’s unbelievable. But what options do we have?? Josh Wood’s form has dipped massively in the last few weeks so I’m not sure he could step up to scrum half at the moment.
The tactics need to change. Watson’s (understandably) scared of losing the games so it’s all just up the jumper, kick for territory, complete your sets - he said as much in his press conference. JLJ and Lui have been instructed to kick deep for territory but neither of them have the kicking skills to execute this effectively. How many times this season have you seen us force a goal line drop out from a kick or score from a kick out to the wings?? I’d like to see us play a bit more off the cuff and go for it, we know we can throw the ball about and score some great tries but recently it’s just one dimensional, trying not to lose the game rather than winning it.
Re Watson: ultimately his job is to get us in the 8, which will mean survival for this year at least. If he manages that, it will be some achievement. He should be judged on where we finish.
Sorry to end on doom and gloom but could this be our lowest Superleague attendance on Friday?

Fair honest assessment, however if we keep playing this style of rugby we will be in the bottom 4.
Maybe we need to look at a bit of experience in the middle, to be honest I cannot see how we can persist with Littlejohn.
Magic weekend I got more excited about watching all the other games, we have been woeful in the last two matches.
I do feel sorry for Watson, any coach can manage to rotate with a pool of 35 players, we have 20 odd & no academy & very little quality to rotate in the team.
I will keep the faith & be there on Friday but more out of hope than expectation

Feels like a "last chance saloon" match this one, even though we're somehow still 8th in the table.
Given the fixtures we've got left, the only "winnable" ones I can see are Huddersfield on Friday, and maybe Widnes at home in a few weeks. I know we've got Hull KR and Catalans again, but both away from home - tough places to go, can't see it happening on current form.

When I initially saw the 19 man squad I assumed that we'd start Josh Wood in the halves with Lui instead of Shorrocks and give Tomkins a longer stint at Hooker. Shorrocks hasn't shown much since he came on loan. Glad to see Littlejohn out of the squad, he has been really poor. He's had plenty of opportunies to bed in but it just hasn't happened. Really important that we get the 2 points on Friday. I can't quite believe that we're not in the bottom 4 as things stand but we need to create a bit of distance between ourselves and those behind us in the table. |

Watson had no choice but to drop Littlejohn. I think another bad performance from him this Friday would really see the fans on his back and I don't like to see abuse thrown at individual players from our fans. However, Shorrocks hasn't exactly ripped up trees either so it'll be interesting to see whether he goes with Shorrocks at scrum half or tries something a bit different.
This will not be a pretty game, Watson knows how massive this is and will be desperate not to lose regardless of performance so I think we'll see more one up rugby. Hopefully the forwards can make more yards than the last few games and keep us on the front foot.
I dont really care how we play this one. Just win it Salford, please win it

I’d put Shorrocks at hooker interchange with Wood at SH personally. Shorrocks has shown nothing at SH so far

I wasn’t going to waste my money on coming tonight after the gutless performance I witnessed at Leigh. The debacle at the Magic Weekend reaffirmed this and I agreed to take my 7 year old daughter for a meal tonight. Then the mid week rallying call happened!
Sod it - change of plan - she can have a pie at half time instead!
