No because it’s a name change by stealth. It may only be a matter of time before Salford is later dropped. Also, there is no guarantee newspapers and websites will list Salford in their league tables. S & Manchester, for example, would not be acceptable.

So, just to reiterate, the club are not saying they are definitely changing their name. However, ‘nothing’s off the table,’ and where there is a possibility, we have to treat it as a possibility.

IP is a grey area, even if you have a registered trademark. However, you would have to imagine a team called Manchester Red Devils would be a clear conflict of interest here.

Doesn’t work because it doesn’t trademark the name. Manchester Red Devils (2017) Limited could be a workaround. Same with domain names.
Anyway, let’s stick to celebrating Salford and making sure people know about it.

I’ve been thinking more about this during my dinner. If this episode is a ruse by the club to stir up emotions, generate publicity and get more people through the gates, then surely, the net result is agreeable to us all. I’d rather be one of the gullible fucks duped by it than somebody who sat back and enjoyed the last few games of a decent Salford side but forever ruing the decision to dismiss it as bollocks.

Am I the only one completely missing something, a petition against rumours and conjecture? Until something is officially announced I'll be supporting my team and getting behind the boys who have been fantastic this season. After which is a different matter and I'll fight tooth and nail against it. I went into the meeting wanting to put some meat on the bones, so to speak. A number of supporters who were at the meeting – we are talking trustworthy characters here – have spoken to either Marwan, Ian or other higher ups and it is clear a name change is on the club’s agenda. Therefore, while it is not a certainty, where there is even a slightest possibility that Salford could be eradicated from the name of the club, we as supporters of the club – which is more than the team – must do something, even if it is merely to cajole the club to make that official statement. Nothing would please me more than this being nipped in the bud so that we can look forward to Magic Weekend. The petition is just about gauging the feeling out there for Salford and making sure the club are aware of it before making any rash decisions.

The main outcomes from meeting, which had some impassioned speeches and responses from the supporters who were able to attend, was that a name change is on the club’s agenda and as fans what can we do to dissuade them. This is not to say a name change is certain but the club are considering it along with a number of other options.
In a scenario where the club will not rule anything out, we must assume a name change is a possibility. That’s the gist.
A working groups of supporters there will work on some of the action points raised. I’m sure we’ll find out more in due course.

I know there is the William Webb-Ellis angle but I’d prefer we stayed away from it. He didn’t create Rugby football for one.

Salford & Manchester Red Devils? To play out of the Academy stadium? The Red Devils nickname might be a problem for the owners of that complex.

me and a friend offered to give salford a % of anything we make on a retro range for salford, presented it to the club and they said they dont mind us doing it but didnt want anything to do with it, this was told to us on the 6th april so we have decided that any profit we make we are going to put back into the local community teams and we have already supplied training kits to the u8s langworthy reds and will help with any other local teams. our website is reddevilsapparel.com/ Been waiting for something like this for years, nice one! Just purchased a t-shirt, be good to see one of the Cambrian Lager shirts done for the retro range (like the club promised once upon a time) I thought they only did soft drinks.

I think Salford will always have low to fair crowds regardless of success. If you look back all the way back to the seventies our crowds have never been massive or even consistently medium to high, even when we were at our best in the modern era. If you go back beyond the seventies you see larger increases in crowds, but the reasons for that are as much to do with social-economic, political, and community demographics. Different era, different lives. I’ll post what I put on Facebook a couple of weeks back: The only problem with the 70s comparison, and we’re kind of blinkered by this as Salford fans, is that for much of that decade rugby league was really on its arse. Take the 1976/77 season, for example. Salford’s average attendance was 5,457 – shite by modern standards for a club who were the reigning champions. Yet only Widnes had a higher average that season. Wigan? 4,699. Leeds? 4,508. Hull? 3,860. St Helens? 4,736. So in an era where the game generally gets bigger crowds across the board, is Salford’s crowd potential higher now than it was then? My gut isn’t having it (and the stadium is still a pain in the bollocks for mine) but we haven’t really tested it properly yet.
