It's good Salford are offering to help. I'm certainly no Bradford fan but a small sport such as rugby league can't afford to lose clubs with history like theirs. I do wander if anybody would have offered to help if Salford had folded a few years back though. Possibly not. That doesn't change the fact that you should offer help to a friend (or anybody, really) who finds themselves in trouble. It's the right thing to do, regardless.

There's nothing wrong with the left in politics, I was trying to highlight the fact that RL was born out of political strife for the working classes and its structure has always embraced an equal say for everyone ethos. The irony being that this system nowadays is actually hindering the governance of the sports ruling body. It can't make bold decisions if it wanted to. Too much vested interest from the interconnected nature of those that are involved in the sport. Clubs always looking short term and not long term for the good of the game. You also get inexplicable decisions like two double-header weekends this season, and the fact we play more games in SL than in the NRL. We burn out players quicker than Australia. We lack intensity in the majority of games and have no prestigious UK competition like the SOO. The RFL don't help themselves on this matter. Making strange decisions that wont help anyone. Pretty much what I was alluding to. We need a ruling body that rules. "We're doing it this way!" We don't need a ruling body that bends to the will of club chairmen. "How should we do it, Mr Hetherington/Leneghan/whoever? Okay, we'll do it that way." As long as club chairmen call the shots, we'll have a game ruled by the self-interest of a small group of 'powerful' individuals, instead of a thriving, global sport. (And I know it isn't just that easy!)

Carnster, I like the point about the Aussies taking the best practice from all over the world then going back and implementing it. It leads me to the point that our RFL do not run the game in the UK, the clubs do! The RFL then have to negotiate a path through the swamp that doesn't upset too many of the clubs (screw Salford, by all means, but Wigan, Leeds?). There is no leadership. There is nobody telling the clubs "This is the way we are going to do it. Get on with it!" The clubs need to surrender their control of the game and hand it over to a real governing body. How you finance that governing body is a good question, though.

Oh,well! Perhaps other people have other things to do? After all, it's hardly an Earth-shattering list of hopes, is it?

It doesn't contain the word "devil", but would "Dancing with Mr D." by the Rolling Stones count?
There are some great advertising ideas in this thread.

Q: 2017 - what are we aiming at?
A: Grand Final victory.
Next question.

His position seems strange at first sight, however it makes sense.
If we stay in SL, his millions can't buy success. He's tried that and failed. However, he will find it easier to find a buyer to take the club off his hands.
If we drop down, he can 'do a Derek' and spend for success. In this case, his millions will make a difference. In the Championship, though, he will probably find it difficult to find a buyer.
So, stay in SL and flog the club vs drop down a level, spend enough to get promoted and then flog the club and depart as the 'hero' who got us back in SL.
It's a win - win for Marwan.

Russ, the middle 8s are only "protracted torture" because we are Salford and can't be relied on to do the simple things right. Like beating HKR at home! If we'd won that game, we'd have 4 points now and be looking to finish on 10, which would leave us safe. Instead, I'm trying to convince myself that a bizarre sequence of results will see us finish 3rd and avoid the mpg. I'm sure Leeds and Leigh are both relishing the middle 8s.

Totally deserved, well done. Am I right in concluding that ,if all results go as expected ie Superleague teams beat those from the championship, and that's a big 'if' then the crucial game becomes HKR against Giants in the final match. As one of them has to win,OK unless it's a draw, then it means we are already consigned to the mpg, irrespective of our points difference,so the only relevance would be 'home' advantage wherever that might be . And that's all we have to play for? Is that correct ? No. Technically, we could finish 3rd on points difference and avoid the mpg. However, our pd is the worst of HKR, Hudds and ourselves.

What does this do for SRD's chances?
In and of itself, nothing. We're still destined for the mpg. However, IF London can turn over HKR tomorrow and we can put 50 on Fev, that will be a game changer and give us an escape route from the mpg.
I still think we haven't got a cat in hell's chance if we find ourselves in the mpg, though. So, "Come on Salford!" and "Come on London!"
