Garry Schofield who I thought was a fantastic player, has at times over the years, talked some utter nonsense. For once I wholeheartedly agree with him Article

The official text from the SRD Website. I've not seen a more glowing reference about a players service for a long while! From that phrase, I don't think the club are very impressed.

Seems like a bit of a nob really. He threatened to go back to Aus if we didn't let him go. We get £80k towards the club and imo a better player in Taylor. Didn't realise that he threw his toys out of the pram. Obviously not committed to Salford so, all in all, a good result for the Salford coffers. Although a good player, not irreplaceable. From what I've seen of Elijah Taylor, he's top class and funded partially by the Yates money. A good outcome for "Team Salford".

If we are letting Yates go to Huddersfield then I'm assuming we got a rather hefty fee for him. Hopefully that will go most of the way to funding Elijah Taylor.
Does this mean we can still afford Danny Levi (If he wants to come)?

I'm not saying this means anything but Danny Levi is following Salford on Instagram (he's also following Catalans as well). He's also mates with Luke Yates from his Newcastle days before he left for London. Not sure if this adds fuel to the fire or not!

Makes good viewing for a club with no major benefactor. I think it will be very different figures this year with the impact of Covid and no crowds.
Does anyone have any idea of the financial benefits as a result of Grand Final and Challenge Cup final appearances?

Watched the NRL round one game Manly v Melbourne from this year and Danny Levi played in his debut for Manly. He looks to have very quick distribution from the play the ball, very strong defensively and scoots well from dummy half. He even tried the Joey move near the line (didn't score). If we've signed him then it looks a really good signing (based on one game ).

I'd be extremely wary of this.
Why do the NRL want to get involved in Super League? It's not because they want to help their Pommie mates out with a bit of cash!
I can see it being to grab all the best talent into the NRL and make the Super League a league to send their rookies over to gain experience for the NRL. Why else would they want to spend their hard earned cash?
They hold the English game in utter contempt. When Tommy Makinson and Kevin Sinfield won the Golden Boot they were asking who they were?
No for me I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

Me too. I was certain it was going to be Bradford. Maybe the tribunal was independent after all. Leigh from a short term competitive team for next year does make sense. Hopefully we'll all be in the ground to welcome Junior back next year.

I personally would be surprised if it's anyone apart from Bradford because the RFL need to recoup some of the money they paid out for Odsal.
I know it's an "independent" tribunal making the decision but what Criteria and guidelines have been set out for them?
If we're looking at expansion then London and Toulouse should be favourites. York possibly could be included in that category
If it's history then Widnes, Bradford and Leigh
If it's the ability to compete next year then Maybe Featherstone and Leigh.
I personally would like London to be given another chance because the RFL have invested a lot into London and they have worked hard with the local amateur game in the area. It also falls into the expansion of the game.

To me this is annoying from the perspective that Ian Watson is trying to unsettle a Salford player that's under contract for another two years. This is worse than his gripe about losing players who are out of contract signing for "more glamorous" teams.
If we look at this from an outcome perspective then either Huddersfield pay us well over the odds because we (hopefully) don't need to sell Luke Yates, or Luke finishes his contract with us then we keep a good player for another two years.
If Huddersfield do stump up a lot of money then we can reinvest that money and we effectively have a free player for the next two years.

I think Ian Watson may be realising that the draw to Huddersfield for players may not be same as the draw for himself. Being realistic is Huddersfield deemed to be a better proposition for players compared to Salford who over the last few years have reached two major finals. In that time Salford have taken unfancied players and improved them. So much so that we are now attracting higher calibre players that want to achieve things with Salford. Dan Sarginson, Kallum Watkins and Joe Burgess would grace most "top" teams in Super League.
Ian Watson has been a big part of that but we need to give credit to the whole organisation and structure that's allowed him and others to flourish.
Huddersfield have more money but don't have the Kudos and appeal of the "top" clubs, so to attract good players they will have to pay above market value which soon eats into the salary cap, and would top payers want to go there? Adam Sezer has had a great year but in 12 months if an NRL club or a "top" Super League side came calling would he want to stay?
With higher salaries comes higher expectation, will Ian get the time, backing and support at Huddersfield if things start to go badly? Only time will tell.
