Agree about MK does next week too.
Shambles.
Salford coach Ian Watson:
"It was an embarrassment - that was not what the club has been about this season. For whatever reason we have lost that bit of desire within the group.
"It feels like we've got to the eights and put our feet up. That's not good enough. When you have the opportunity to be a top-four team you have to grasp that.
"The players need to show some pride in themselves and the team - and we need to rectify that. There will be some honest conversations this week."

Was going to dispute that, until I saw him actually take a drive in the second half.

That last night was an utter disgrace, so called professional players walking around a rugby field doing passable impressions of headless chickens. Carney has a world class kicking game yet couldn't find the in-goal area to try and force a drop out countless times. Every single restart found the exact same mown area and was 15 meters short of the goal line, no variation on the medium length left kick. Hauraki looks like he doesn't want to play in the front row, not sure he is big enough and seems like he wants to hit and drop at the contact every time. I don't know if it just me but BMM looks to have piled a few llbs on in 2nd half of the season, he started the year off like a house on fire when he was leaner and fitter. Lui needs to stop his jump sidestep before every contact as it is virtually useless. Why has Johnson bulked up so much, he used to be lightening off the mark but now seems like he needs 5 yards to get going, remain convinced his future is as a centre not as a winger. Watching the NRL and most teams manage with a hooker playing 80 minutes so why do we feel the need to have one on the bench, start with Brining next week and leave him on for 80, he is young enough and fit enough to do it. Why we are looking like losing Krasniqi when there are numerous 2nd row options who are just not as good is beyond me, Griffin is lucky we are shirt of forwards or he'd be lucky to carry the water. When you look at that team last night especially the pack, we have too many fringe / squad players in (Griffin, Lannon, Krasniqi). You cannot excuse that display but we were missing Dobson, Flash, Mossop and Tasi. We are really light weight in the forwards, the number of times two men made the tackle and then the attacking player carried on and continued to make several more yards I lost count. With Dobbo leaving we obviously need to replace him, but I feel we need at least another 5 quality players to come In - centre, speedy winger, 2 props and a back rower not only to improve and compliment what we have but to also add genuine competition for places.

I thought they had put the cue on the rack weeks ago. I think we have now to look at Watson all we have had for the last three months, five drives and a kick.

I thought they had put the cue on the rack weeks ago. I think we have now to look at Watson all we have had for the last three months, five drives and a kick. I think you are right about the "cue on the rack". Our focus at the start of the season was "Avoid the middle-8s at all costs" and we did it. If we lost focus after that, then Watson and the whole team need to ask themselves how to avoid the same thing happening in the future. The "five drives and a kick" is an interesting one. We played with panache in the early part of the season, but it's gone flat. Why? Mostly it's injuries, with some it's a confidence thing and I guess every player has his own reasons. Whatever, the end result is not good. However, to go back to the flashy play of 4 months ago, we need players who have the ability and flair to play that way and who are fit! I don't think we have them right now. Lui and Dobson are injured, GOB has lost confidence and TC has gone missing in action. Who do we have left who can come up with the flashy plays? Five drives and a kick may be all we have left. I know that is not the response you want, but I just want to offer an alternative to the "Watto must go!" response to our recent demise.

Great shame that few in the squad are playing for their contacts next year.

If we have to play 5/10 players we should not be surprised if we become a 5/10 team.
I also realise 5 is being extremely generous.

Watson said in his press conference that the goal was the top eight when that was achieved,he thinks some of the group switched off.He did not use it as an excuse. He said he was bitterly disappointed and that it was not good enough I think he was being honest, and I respect that.He said what has been dished up of late is not good enough, for a group of players who want to be at the top.He said the coaches and playing staff have to take a long hard look at them selves.I think the performance last night his the type to get him sacked,on that I think he deserves to start next season. One good thing I asked Carney about next season,he told me he has not been offered a contract. At least a bit of good news.

When cas first got into the top eight a few years ago, they lost all or most of their games in the top eight. They have slowly progressed. So perhaps we are expecting to much to soon. Is this the first year of our five year plan, let's hope so

if the players have 'put the cue on the rack' is this not down to the coach to prevent?

I watched a team last night who played a brilliant brand of rugby which we saw earlier in the season. London Broncos are made up of cast offs young up and coming players and managed by a young keen manager. They have not given up and but for the post and the denial of a penalty which should have been would have beaten Warrington. Why have Salfords players just supposedly given up ? There is more to this than that and the next three games will determine which route the club will be taking for next season.

I don't think players give up.
What happens is a culmination of fatigue, knocks, low team morale, and trying to break a bad run. Unlike the first half of the season, when you need to dig deep to turn things around each player is fresher, morale is higher, no knocks and no really bad run to contend with. They're Physically and mentally fresher as individuals and as a team. Much more difficult to get out of a rut at this stage.

It's now up to the coach to weed out those players who are not up to the standard needed for a top 4 SL team and replace them with better ones.
