Funny how we all think we were under par yesterday while Wakey fans are claiming this is their best team in 40 years on their forum! FWIW, I thought we started lethargically yesterday and gave away some poor tries. The pace in that Wakey backline is frightening and we came up seriously lacking in that first 40 minutes.
Credit for the lads for coming back so strong in the 2nd half tho, if we'd have scored again during that 15-20 minutes of total dominance we'd have seen the game out. We just made silly handling errors at crucial times which killed all our momentum and gave Wakey a boost when it looked like we were going to steamroller them. Bit concerned about our defence out wide yesterday as we got caught a couple of men short on numerous occasions and you just can't do that against the likes of MCB and BJB.
Positives? Tasi was superb and especially enjoyed him putting Fifita on his ar$e!😊 Thought the forwards put a decent showing on but we just lacked the spark in attack that we've shown this season. Koppy as usual was excellent off the bench and thought BMM put in a huge effort. To nearly catch Lyne on that breakaway try was a phenomenal effort and put some of our backs to shame. Would love to know what he can do 10pm in as that is one hell of a stride length he's got!
Negatives? Crowd was utter turd. I've had my say on the "name change" thread so I'll leave it at that.
Wide defence. Poor. Far too easy for Wakey to get on our outside and they fully exploited it. How the f*ck did we ever let MCB go?!😫
Some of our fans. If you're gonna lay into players after 20 minutes of a poor perdormance then do me a favour and f*ck off and support someone else. The flack Dobbo and Lui got off a couple of pr1cks in the South Stand was not on and funny how quiet they were 2nd half when we started to get a foothold in the game. Support the team FFS, they're not superhumans and they have off days. They deserve some respect, not turning on by people who must have fogotten just how sh1te we've actually been for the past 40 years.
Anyway, don't want to end on a negative note so have to congratulate Wakey on an excellent win. That's as good a performance as I've seen from a Wakey team at Salford in my lifetime and they've put together a really good squad. To turn us over with the amount of players they have out is impressive and the cup game in a fortnight is going to be a massive test. I fancy us to nick it tho if we learn from yesterday's mistakes but there won't be much in it.
Oh and look on the bright side guys..... we could be Wire!!😂😂😂😂

When I got to the ground (late!) it was a strange atmosphere. The crowd didn't sound up for it and the team looked flat despite the early pressure. It looked to me that Wakey knew all our moves, Sau battering, O'Brien second pivot, miss-pass to Welham to try and create the 2 on 1. So once they'd soaked it up and capitalized / got lucky and had points on the board they only needed to match us score for score and play the percentages. However that try late in the first half gave us hope and I reckon Watson gave them a battering at half time as they seemed like a different team, after the break. They must also have talked about the attacking plays. As people have mentioned it was much more direct with Koppy and then Tasi breaking the lines to score. The difference being, had we not gifted them 16 points in the first half, the game would have been won (or at least our game management would have not allowed them to get close enough to threaten us) so losing this will be a very important lesson.
Having said that, I do think Dobbo wasn't at the races today - whether the rest v Wire has had an adverse affect, or simply had an off day I don't know. Brining didn't play well either and normally you see a difference when he comes on for Tomkins, but not this game. His looped, end over end pass to Sau who then knocked on directly after a scrum seemed to sum his display up. I think they also worked Welham out and so he didn't look too good either especially coughing up possession when threatened with going out of play in the first half that lead to their 3rd try. (I think!)
If our backs can play that badly and we still give the 4th place team in Super League a good game, then I think we're doing ok. We're still second, shame Saints didn't do us a favour with Cas.
Bring on Hull!!!

It's not being negative or positive we were just dire.If anyone came for the first time yesterday it wasn't the advert to come back.Carney has a good game at Warrington so what does that get him the bench and the tired bit I am not having.Turn up with the same attitude a week on Thursday and we are out of the cup

Interestingly 3 of the Wakey three quarters were Salford rejects. John Kear a bright guy, best English coach.

I brought 7 newbies with me yesterday and they loved it and will all be coming again. One child in the group has converted from being a wigan fan to a Salford fan on the back of it. He said Salford did a lot better against Wakefield than Wigsn did and we play better rugby! We weren't at our best but still played significantly better than we have in previous years and nearly got the win even playing below our best. We should have hung on once we got in front but we didn't. Wakefield are a really good team this year and (as they showed against us at their place, against Wigan last week and on other games) don't know when they're beaten. We dominated the first half but they defended superbly. They took their chances. We didn't. We don't have the right to beat any team and sometimes we will come up short. We will have to play better against hull and in the cup game but to say we were dire is a massive over reaction in my opinion. It's only the second time this season we have conceded more than 30 points. That shows we were below our recent standards but shows how far we've come. Somebody on Facebook a d Twitter (also called Dixon ironically) said they'd never been angrier at a Salford performance. That suggests to me they either started watching Salford this year or have a very short memory Wakefield were better than us yesterday. That will happen sometimes. The important thing is how we respond

Mr Dixon. Couple of points if I may..... 1) Are you the guy who was stood in front of me in South Stand slagging Dobbo and Lui off first half? Purely asking as you do like a good whinge!😀 2) Please learn how to spell our owner's name. I'm bored of oppo fans with their lazy ar$e digs at "Koolcash/Cashcow"etc so the least we can do as Salford fans is spell his name correctly.😊 It's K o u k a s h. After all it's not as tough as Koppshack or Kraznichi is it?😊😂

Disappointed with the result yesterday but when you back at the highlights it's obvious to me that it just wasn't our day. We dominated field territory for large parts of the game and Wakefield managed to get a couple of decent interceptions in the first half and somehow found themselves with a 16-0 lead early on. I think you have to give massive credit to our players in the manor they got themselves back in the game. This was achieved by the introduction of Todd Carney onto the field, he completely changed the game. Questions must be asked as to why he didn't start after his immense performance at Warrington, he was the best player on the pitch by a long way for me.
Yes we've had two disappointing results against Wakefield (both games have been absolute thrillers) but as long as we win that Challenge Cup quarter-final and beat them when it matters all with be forgotten. There's no shame in getting beat off a team who have won their last 5 games (even with a few key players out), we need to keep our confidence up, put that game behind us, learn from it and put everything into this Friday's game against Hull FC on Sky.

How much of our response is because of the way both fans and players performed at Warrington? It was a high and, as so often, this is followed by a low. I agree the fans were strangely quiet and the flow of play was equally lower key. As for the latter, we must remember that Wakefield had studied our game and knew what to do to break down our attack in tackles 3-5. Possibly that is why Carney made a difference: it added a factor they had not prepared for.
As for the comments that the 3/4s were Salford rejects: sorry but all three played well for us and were not rejects. Possibly a tongue in cheek remark but those three were very much part of their victory.
Ben again deeply impressed:I hope the rumours of interest from down under are just rumours.

You can't coach against raw pace unfortunately, if Greg Johnson is out of the cup game I seriously worry we will be done again.
Cannot bear to think about defeat in that cup tie, if we get to the Semi Final then people might sit up and take notice blow this chance then god knows what the future holds.

I think we should do what Alex Murphy used to get done against fast sides; bring the touchlines in for the next Wakey match.

I think we should do what Alex Murphy used to get done against fast sides; bring the touchlines in for the next Wakey match. We thought that the touchlines had been brought in for the Wakefield game,we thought that was the reason we appeared to run out of space several times in the second half.
