I will be locking any threads which are related to the re-brand tomorrow so that all future discussion on the subject can be consolidated in to one 'sticky' post, which can be seen HERE.This is simply to ensure that unrelated threads do not get sidetracked. Thanks.

Where else do we discuss though, for those of us not on social media? It's of great importance to many Salford fans, and this is the Salford fans forum. I appreciate some just want to enjoy the ride I totally get that, it's the best ride we've had for a long time but to many the potential name change is if greater importance. It should be discussed, in my opinion. It's a fair point. Whether we like it or not, the name change is of massive importance to a lot of Salford fans, possibly the majority. What concerns me about discussing it on here, though, is that there's a danger that it can be a distraction from the things we should be talking about - like what's happening on the field. In addition, there are worrying signs of pettiness creeping in to the debate, and pettiness seems to be the gateway drug that eventually leads to "cliqueyness". That, along with basic astrophysics, is what did for the Scarlet Turkey, and it would be a shame if it happened on here too. I don't know what the answer is.

Why don't you pen one then.We are at least trying to do something. Just making a point about channeling it correctly. It is a forum after all. Just my opinion, as you're fond of saying. It seemed to me you were criticising a letter sent by a group of Salford fans.A letter to the RFL asking them to refuse any application Koukash may make regarding a name change.Who better to write to.I am beginning to wonder how much affinity you have to the Salford name.Mine is total a change and I stop going end off.

Each to their own tho Dixon, I feel the same as you but I also know some fans who go week in week out who wouldn't be massively bothered about a name change. Doesn't make either a better fan.
Whatever our stance I don't think we should be arguing between ourselves, we all want Salford to do well at the end of the day.

Perhaps a more inspirational open letter to the Salford public to get off their rumps and attend would do better than this. While passionate, it's basically just a whinge. An open letter? To be published where? In the Salford edition of the Manchester Weekly News (or whatever it's now called) in the hope that someone might see it on that particular organ's one minute journey from doormat to recycling bin? In the Manchester Evening News where it can sit alongside a stream of asinine offerings from gumptards complaining about bin collections and car parking? Any ideas gratefully received. To dismiss a constructive attempt to enlist the help of the RFL to head off this disastrous name change, and, in the process, express the heartfelt opinions of many Salford fans reflects badly on you (in my opinion, of course). You're better than that. You might not agree with the opinion expressed in that letter - you are perfectly free not to - but responding in the way that you have just comes across as whinging: "It's not my battle, therefore you shouldn't talk about it". I've been staying away from the name change stuff on here, because I agree with the sentiment expressed elsewhere on this forum: "I'll moderate this thread but I wont contribute to this or other similar threads until we actually know what's going on as it's just turning into a freak show." Maybe it's time we all heeded that advice (I know I will be), while those who are vehemently opposed to the change continue to do everything they can to prevent it happening. You make some valid points. Reading my reply back it does sound a bit narky but wasn't intended that way. It was just offering something up off the top of my head that might be constructive rather than devisive. I worded it badly, my apologies. My point of view stems from knowing how the RFL work from many years associated with senior and mid-level people there in the past. They are only competent when it comes to vested interests, so I think the letter while well meaning will basically be ignored. As for my standing on the name change I don't want it to happen. I think a name change will do very little. Would I still support the team with a name change? Yes I would. But that's me. I'll heed my own advice and sign-off from these debates which are still, at the moment, just speculation as to how, if, or when anything may happen. Will it be a 'Hard' name drop? Or a 'Soft' name drop? or none? I'll come back when we know facts.

Don't take it personally dixon13!
