What a cracking match, particularly given the conditions.
A very disciplined performance from Salford. Defended superbly and - and this is the big, big difference over previous years - didn't give away a load of stupid penalties. I don't think we gave away any in the first half (maybe one), and that's what kept us in the game. Perhaps it's the Richard Silverwood effect.
I agree that Walne and Krasniqi had their best games for some time and I thought Lee Mossop ran well too. We still have a bit of a tendency to take the ball standing still or not running at full pace, but Mossop was one of the ones who did seem to run on to the ball at speed.
Two really positive things to take from today were, firstly, not giving away daft penalties, and, secondly, not losing in the last minute.
Back up to fifth, by the way.

Brilliant brilliant result, the forwards were immense.
Think we are still playing Carney as nothing more than a bettering ram when he can be so much more.
I did spot something today that really irked me, at one point Tomkins got a bit of a clattering around the head but didn't want to come off with the trainer, seconds later Brining came on as a sub, if the trainer & Tomkins would have managed it better he could have gone of for a HIA and we would have had an extra interchange.
Can only think that TC isn't 100% and was on the bench purely as a bums on seats attraction, as said though kudos to Watson for not just bringing him on for the sake of it.

I've noticed that Robert Lui has a great flat pass (as in not forward), that gives the big blokes a head start in breaking the tackle. It would be a shame if Todd Carney automatically took his place. I think both would have a big impact, so for me, they interchange throughout the match. Great highlights and what a try by BMM.

2nd try was ridiculous. Probably even more than JJ's at Hudds I think Cas can feel hard done to by that try at the end of the first half being ruled a forward pass Think my heart is just about recovering

From the highlights the pass was clearly forward but we've all seen them NOT given. I could only listen on the radio and Dave Woods/Paul Highton were excellent. They kept focusing on the Lui/BMM partnership and I guess Watson didn't want to upset the apple cart. It was odd not bringing TC on but, yes,it does show very strong management

Fantastic to wake up to the result this morning, I had visions of a 26-18 scoreline to them with a match report saying that it was nip and tuck until a Cas score in the final minute nailed it for them. But no! Another Gaz O'Brien drop goal special (people will be comparing him to Dai Watkins next ;-)). I think this one will definitely be my first Vimeo download!

I managed to have a quick word with RL after the match and asked him where he sees his position if and when Todd takes the field. He was happy to be anywhere so I suggested maybe @ #13 to which he responded `Well I am big enough`

Rob Lui has been superb for us over the last few weeks. His partnership with Dobson must be one of the bnest we've had in SL. I am a real fan of Dobson and think he controlled things aghain really well yesterday. lui seems to have that spark that means he can do something a bit different (or balls it up!). cas seemed to read the Dobson to GOB play every time yesterday but Lui seems to be able to mix the timing of his pass up a bit more. Against Hudds they were reading the GOB joining the line move so Lui suggested a slight change which resulted in O'Brien's try at the start of the second half. Last year BMM was mostly used as a dummy runner but Lui seems to be hitting him with passes most times this year. A few times yesterday BMM took the ball quite deep so Cas could adjust and tackle him but the pass for his first try was timed to perfection right at the line and there was nothing the defenders could do
As others have said the forwards were superb yesterday both in defence and attack. All of them were immense with 3 first choices injured or suspended and only 2 subs they really stood up. Special mention to Walne who cops some (mostly deserved) stick. If he can play like that every week then he has a very bright future

Well that was a very pleasant Sunday afternoon. Was never in any doubt was it??? My nerves are shot. Why do you do this to me, Salford? Yet again though, a great team performance. Had my doubts when I saw Walne in, but he proved me wrong with a really strong running performance and some great tackles. We didn't miss Tasi and I really thought we would have. Brining is showing more and more class and composure each week and the balance between him and Tomkins is spot on - long may it continue. Lui still looks lively so will Carney even get a start? I expect there will be rotation between the two over Easter as we need to keep the "star man" fresh for an attack on the top 4! Let's be honest - you couldn't pick a top 4 at the moment, so why can't we be in there? We shouldn't fear anyone at all and I'm sure Watto will drum that into them.

Apart from the two tries we gave them i thought our defending was brilliant. Cant think of them being much near our try line. Its just about consistency now. If we play like that then we should be beating teams like wakefield leeds wire so next week is even a bigger game against widnes

Nice to see Daryl Powell being humble in defeat and giving credit where it was due;
"It was just one of those games where we just couldn't quite get going, but I thought they played really well.
"If we'd have got a draw at the end it would have probably been a travesty, I thought they deserved to win the game."

Great performance yesterday. Very pleasing knowing we have Jones, Evalds, Carney, Tasi, Hauraki, etc, to add into that mix. I read before the match that Cas were averaging 43.5 points per game this season and although the weather probably wasn't going to allow for that yesterday, to think they only got two tries was amazing defence from us - particularly when you see the nature of the scores. I still don't know how the winger managed to drag three defenders over the line with him??
Have been very impressed with the defence this year, particularly on our goal line (first half against Wigan excepted). In the past we would have allowed teams big lads to rumble over from a few metres out but we are different beast this year, reminiscent of the way we played in 2005 under Rhino.
Its taken him a few years but I reckon Koukash has finally got himself a team to be proud of.

Today is International Day of Happiness, and it's good to see the team doing their bit to add to worldwide happiness (well, local happiness) yesterday.
