The trouble is that there appears to be not much talent in Salford…the days of Morley, Betts and others being developed by Don Preston in Salford Schools Rugby have long gone It needs to be run fully in Salford Schools and inter city schools rugby needs to be fully developed The club do a lot with schools, although should always aim to do more. I believe the links with the amateur teams in and around the local area are where the main priority needs to be. This is the link to the academy that we need to strengthen as currently we pick up a lot of other academy cast offs. Barla and the academy need to the the cornerstone of each SL team and will help increase the player pool by opening the pathway for more kids from schools then into the amateur game and onwards. Otherwise we will continue to waste money on overseas players who be of zeo benefit to our game and grass roots. Imagine if all the money wasted on nofalomu had been invested in our local amateur teams instead , and we pulled their best players into our academy? It was pleasing to read that this seems to be part of the business plan put forward by the club. But i feel that the sign of a strong, proactive club is to continuously improve both of these links and as fans and owners we should bang the drum and make this happen.

The game changer should be that the City of Salford are now developing their rugby strategy for the City in conjunction with The Foundation. After years of fighting to stay at the Community Stadium it feels like the Council have woken up to the unique opportunity that Rugby (and league in particular) can offer the youth of the City and the stadium facilities will be at the heart of that strategy. I remember reading a couple of years back that 6 Roosters players were signed on academy terms at Wire so hopefully that is the last time we see our talent ripped from our grasp.

See Pete's response below regarding the Salford lads Wire picked up a year or 2 back... there's talent there, it's all about having the resources to find it and then nurture it. And part of that is for the schools to encourage RL participation and if they have lads that show promise then to be able to speak to the club about maybe getting them a trial. 35 years ago I attended an open football trial for Salford Boys at U11's. I believe each school got to send lads they thought were up to it and then the managers/coaches picked their squad from that. If the club could arrange some sort of open trial matches for schoolkids and lads from local amateur teams maybe twice a year I'm not sure it would be a massive overhead resource & time wise.

Foundation does lots of things but it’s now a culture that needs to be developed in schools

With amir going I’d take the layland brothers at London oli is a half/fb and looks very good with the ball and his brother bill who’s been injured this year looks like a top hooker
I’d also go for Lewis beinek he’s really matured in the last 2 years

I think his contract has been extended to include next year…if it has I’m sure Rowley see a lot in him and will make him a good 6/9

Take Ratchford or Drinkwater for next season alongside Sneyd, move Cust to 9 then. That and a couple of big 50 minute+ props and we'd be a real force in the league.

I wouldn’t take either what’s ratchford 38? And drink water seems pretty injury prone now definitely need the props though and a attacking 6

Nofa will take a compromise agreement and leave the club, shame it’s not worked out for him but clearly there are issues. Blease is looking at the quota spot.

Dread to think how much money we've wasted on him to.
