Cheers for the clarification, but I thought the whole point of using the marque was that they do not count on the cap full stop....so from what your saying they count as half?

I thinks it's 50K for a home grown, 75k for a player returning from RU (First year) and the full 150K for others. Also for a player to be classed as a marquee player the club has to be paying them a minimum of 175K a year. So in theory a club could go out and sign two worldies from the NRL and pay them say 500K each and the two players would only count as 300K against the salary cap.
I think they have done this because they are concerned that if they just raised the cap by say another 500k - 750k the extra allowance would just get swallowed up by average/existing SL players and their agents demanding more money.

...so from what your saying they count as half? Marquee players can be paid as much as you want, but only count for a fixed amount on the cap. If you pay a non club trained marquee player £300k it would be half, if you paid them £1.5m it would be 10%. The club trained/international rep allowances just complicate things a bit more! (If you meant a club trained marquee only counts as half of what a non club marquee does I'd have said you were right, although if I'm mistaken and the post above is correct then it's obviously a third instead).

I think those days are over and Watson has full choice of signings. I'd like to think it's just down to the team playing and winning, you can't justify dropping anyone unless they're injured. I'd love to see TC playing every week but who could you drop at the minute?

Carney has a calf problem, that's why he's not been playing.

Believe what u want, time will tell! If this is true, which I have no reason to doubt, I think that's a good thing in many ways. Shows Watson is the boss, and that koukash isn't meddling in squad selection. Obviously shame we've wasted so much money on him but if he ain't good enough then fair do's. It certainly seemed to wake rob lui up anyway!!

Yep I agree, lui has been immense this season. Apparently flash is signed up for next year, just need lui to do the same Flash is quite important to the team when you look at what he provides us... He works tirelessly in defense, helps out the forwards, provides cover over most forward positions, plus can slip into a half-back role if the circumstances dictate. There's not many players around that can offer this amount of utility and be effective. He's like a really good John Wilkin...

Heard off someone today, who said he was told by P.McNally, that Lui is off to HKR to be reunited with 'father figure' Sheens. Probably a load of crap, thought I'd share it though.

Anyone heard anything about this new signing we are supposedly making? I know we've brought in Hasson but he won't be on anything like Carney was on and the MEN reporter said there was another signing to be made. Carney must have been one of the top 3 earners at the club and I'd imagine we must now be a sizeable amount under the salary cap.
I know you could question why bother if the team is doing so well but don't all the top clubs strengthen when they are in a strong position. It must be much easier convincing a player to join if you are 2nd rather than second from bottom. It's a long season (with potentially a maximum of 19 matches to play) and we could pick up some injuries/suspensions so another decent signing could help strengthen the squad for the remainder of this season. This could be the best season we have for the next 30 years and I'd just find it odd to let such a quality player like Carney leave and to not throw absolutely everything at it.

Heard we were getting in a player just before the 8s. I would assume it will be a winger maybe someone like Kevin Naquaima, but currently with our wingers in Evalds and Johnson i can't see even a player like Naquaima getting in.
