With the rumour about Ben Barba possibly heading to Warrington or Saints they would surely have to release some quality players to fit him on the cap. With Salford releasing Carney who must have been one of our big earners it makes you wonder what could be in the pipeline. I know we've brought in Hasson but he want be on a lot will he? Plus with the rumour of the other Carney possibly being moved on (another big earner) it could be very interesting.

In the grand scheme of things it hardly matters, we could strengthen to high heaven this season but will any of us care if Manchester start next season?

To change the name when 99.9% of your customers are strongly against it would be commercial suicide.

If for no other reason than he has to always be right. until later he sheepishly admits he is wrong and climbs down.

Amazingly recently he's referred to himself as a Salfordian, and Salford is the only team he would get involved with.
He did talk recently again about giving some of the club back to the fans, whatever that involves.
Manchester, Devils, Red, only one thing MU. Anybody who did first year degree marketing will tell you ' branding is about defining your special place in the marketplace and distinguishing yourself from your' competiton certainly not confusing yourself with it.
I think the present brand is Red Devil's and Salford was added recently to stop us confusing Red Devil's with MU by MK. Very strange.

I can't help but think this story has been fabricated for publicity and to generate more patriotism to smoke out the armchair supporters. Could it also possibly create new sponsorship opportunites with Salford businesses or lead to an improved deal with the council/stadium company? Has Koukash got a couple of spin doctors purposely leaking false information to support a strategic plan?

Manny I think you're on the right track, all done to get buy in from the local authority and the fans. If it does good ploy MK, something was needed.
I wouldn't be surprised if the new name is Salford Reds. At the moment the name is Red Devil's.

Completely agree Manny, I personally think it's all been done to generate interest from Manchester United and City fans, the article that came out on Sky Sports News website a couple weeks ago even mentioned the prospect of playing a one off game at Old Trafford or The Eithad. There's no doubt supporters of both the Manchester clubs would have heard this on forums or even discussed the idea at home games. Cleaver from The Doc but at least some of us are intelligent enough to see what's really going on and not meltdown at any given opportunity.

Isn't Jordan Turner struggling for game time in Oz ? Versatile option ? There was lots of Twitter chatter that he was being looked at, would get a big salary cap dispensation because he came through the junior system at Salford. I'd have him back as can play 3/4's, halves and I'd like to see him play 13. Him originally coming through the youth system does that matter once they've left, just thinking why is Sam Tomkins Wigan's marquee if he didn't count on the cap due to coming through the youth set up?

Look at all the things he was going to do but has not, to numerous to list.

Looking at the positive side of it. He's wound everybody up, including the Council and the politicians, to take an interest in the Club, which was needed. We all would have done it in different ways, but the fact that the people and media have shown so much interest in it and so much publicity has been generated shows it has worked.
The name won't change, it was just the bait to hook everybody on.

As well as standard cap deductions for home grown players in the squad, if a home grown player is also a marquee player then he only costs £75k on the cap instead of £150k.
