Watkins grew up playing union. Kicking distance was a prerequisite of playing fly half.

First of all Watkins could kick exceptionally long but kickers were rarely put under pressure in the same way back then which may go some way to answering your question JJR.
I’m talking about free kicks to touch R In that case I think it's more to do with the attitude of taking less risks that runs through the sport like a stick of rock. |

Something measurable: One of the things that amazes me is touch kicking. David Watkins could spin a touch kick on either side and gain 50 yards or more…today even Sneyd often puts it just 20/ 30 yards What’s happened to that skill? . Last player who could kick like a mule to touch was Peter Williams.He made at least 10 to 15 more metres than kickers of note today. |

Iain MacCorquodale had quite a boot on him back in the day. He was an excellent kicker.

Gone a bit quiet the club said goodbye to ex players yesterday so I’m expecting news on signings in the next 2 weeks. We know we have Marsters coming, Chris Hill and possibly Liam Byrne. Just seen Leon Ruan has been released by Leeds. A big 2nd row I‘d be taking a punt on him aged 21. We need to sign youth, btw has Matty Foster left??

Gone a bit quiet the club said goodbye to ex players yesterday so I’m expecting news on signings in the next 2 weeks. We know we have Marsters coming, Chris Hill and possibly Liam Byrne. I heard that JJRs mate Paul King was covering Director of Rugby under Rowls guidance. Paul would be involved with the commercials anyhow.

At times it does seem like the marketing throughout RL and at SRD, come to that, is run by the three wise monkeys!
I hope the posters above a correct and we'll be hearing something soon!
I also wondered if our critics will expect less. more or about the same for next season or are they waiting for squad and squad size news before their verdicts too?

I'm thinking with Marsters and Hill announced it would ideally / realistically (in my eyes) be
Nikorima tied down
Bullock tied down
Hooker
2 more props.
That's it I think.
Allows macdonald to wing with a bit of back up in ryan/connell
Hooker as cover for Mellor
2 props onto of what we have would allow wright to go to 2nd row next to watkins and Lewis to loose.
Singleton
Bullock
Hill (his signing is growing on me, after my initial hissie fit:))
Ormondroyd
Pye (couple of games)
Prop x1
Prop x2
Wright and Lewis as other front row options
Not a huge push on recruitment, but as long as we sign players who aren't knackered like the ones we released, it should benefit the squad as a whole

George Hirst a prop from Oldham is another I’d look at big aggressive and only young!
