Is this a wind up? What does everyone think?

I'm not really sure what they do. Apparently it was the Queen before.

Yeah - just read the 'article' now. Well lets hope he can do more than the Queen! Maybe he can popularize it a little more where Union is seen as a stronghold, but TBH I doubt he'll do anything really.
Would be good if the RFL actually made use of his patronage. Despite my dislike of the Royals, I think his stock is actually quite high and he seems one of the most 'normal' of them all if there is such a thing.

I'm a Royalist, and am particularly fond of Harry. l feel this has disaster written all over it. He is already a fan of R F U,and if I'm not mistaken,he is an ambassador or Vice President of R F U. He has no affiliation to our game, and could actually just be head of an organisation that he has no time for. To me it seems that some idiot civil servant has just lumped our game onto him because it's " rugby " without really understanding or caring about RL. Talk about the enemy within!!!!!!

He's ginger, do we want a ginger as our patron?
He is without doubt the one Royal anyone from a younger generation will be fond of so it might be a wise move, don't see his affiliation for RU will have an impact, never the twain and all that.

To the best of my knowledge,he has never been to a RL game, yet has been seen around the world supporting Englan RU. What possible good could he bring to RL. We may as well have a professional northerner such as Michael Parkinson or Bernard Cribbins as Patron.

As I understand it,he replaces the Queen, who last attended Wembley in 1967. Yes,I've watched Salford at Wembley more recently than the Queen has seen a final !!
All things considered I'm pleased he's taken on the job. I totally accept that there's the RU connection and that's certainly a downside but this lad's heart seems to be in the right place.
There has to be an upside in having one of the royals on board and,of all of them,I'm pleased it's him.

It means absolutely nothing. The queen has given up 25 patronages in one go. She was and he will be a name to a position and nothing else. I bet she couldn't name them all. I'll give twenty notes to anyone on here who can

Does the RFL actually have to invite him to attend games or get involved with the UK national teams or does he just decide he wants to experience the cultural delights of a Salford V Widnes game on a Friday night?
I'm not a fan of the royal family but I've seen plenty of his involvement in the Invictus games to not doubt he's a decent guy, the RFL should try and get involved in this and try to cross promote.

Queenie has over 600 patronages .. and is now beginning to hand down the ' workload ' to the grandkids . Sophie & Harry Windsor are the best of the bunch and have the ' sporty ones ' LTA & 'the rugby's .etc
I'll give him the benefit of the doubt , he may surprise us and turn up for one .

We need to pique his interest and quickly. Get him involved straight away in grass roots. I don't care whether he's affiliated with RU as well as RL. If we can 'use' him in the right way then surely we have access to a younger generation and more of a global reach (tech and media savvy - Queen on the wane, Harry on the wax if you know what I mean) than we've had previously. I'm fairly new to the RL politics, but I've seen a lot of negativity (not on this board particularly as it's quite a mixed response) about anything that relates to RU and or outside the M62 corridor. Surely this represents an opportunity to destroy those perceived boundaries and even unite things a bit? - Okay, okay, I'm an idealist. But I played RU for a long time throughout school and chose to watch and obsess on League instead. It can be done, perceptions can be changed but with positivity, not insular thought and negativity. Only IMHO of course.

I am sure Ian Bleasé could invite Harry to visit Salford, take in a couple of schools one Friday afternoon & enjoy the evening match at the AJBELL.

To be fair if the club themed a match around the services or Help For Hero's you'd like to think there's a decent chance that might happen. Like him or loathe him he is brilliant at promoting the cause of ex servicemen who have sacrificed so much for this country.
