Always positive about the rugby PR, what the coaching staff achieve with small resources and often a busted squad is good, even tho when we get young forwards developing like Dupree and Luckely they get picked off…sadly in reality we’re still in survival mode and generally a selling team…but we’ve hung on to Croft. It’s the Rugby that generates the crowds On top of the forwards today we’ll have Gerrard, King V, Wright all back plus Dixon and Sidlow fit and maybe a couple of others…and remember last year we had a big number of players on international duty and consequently a poor pre season PR with a few additions we should be in with a chance of top 6 next season. The only downside is the ageing of Sneyd and Watkins and the form of a couple of the forwards but Bleasy will probably be able to move a couple on as he has this year if needed Exactly this. Last night wasn’t great but the team is busted and exhausted, and the same key players have to keep trotting out due to lack of resources when they’re knackered and injured. This is just the reality of the financial position, we have over achieved again, a hair’s breadth away from the top six, £2 million pound spenders below us. And a team who gives everything for the shirt and fights until the end. Well done all.

I get MTR points we do not play entertaining Rugby at this point in time and have not for the past 3 months. Everything in attack is lateral, Croft is ineffective - Teams have worked us out hence our inability to score points which was not the case last year. Our form this year for the first 3 months was top 6, the form for the final 3 was bottom three/four. Rowley is lorded by almost everyone on this forum, the quality on display last night in attack was not of Super League standard. I hold Rowley accountable for the teams performance on the pitch. As for who we can bring in; Romanous, Eseh, Whitbread, Ashworth was available, etc. That is without looking at Aus 2nd Tier and Championship. Granted injuries have not helped this year but all teams especially KR have been hit. If you look at Lam for me he is the coach who has over achieved with a small squad and got the best out of his players. Leigh have 4-5 class players, the rest have been around Super League, sometimes the teams output is greater than the component individual parts. At times Salford look like a team of individuals in attack rather than a team. I'd suggest our priorities are forwards coming in and to rethink our attack in 2024. Rowley will know which positions he wishes to improve - its Blease job to make that happen.

King said we were spending just over £2 milion at the Owner's promotion event, which as I've said before, if true, we've built a squad with little resilience and depth for that cash because on paper this isn't a £2 million squad.
But, I agree that PR has done well with a small squad that has been busted (let's remember he doesn't agree the contracts/wages). Just look at the bench he's had to roll out the past 4-6 weeks. Last year we had a similar squad be stayed fit, just like Leigh this year, if they had the injuries we had they wouldn't be in their position. We'd also be in the top 6 if not of poor refereeing decisions against us in three home fixtures that we lost by less than a score.
It's clear to me that Rowley has the group buying in and pulling together. There is no lack of effort but it's clear players have played with knocks and illness and we've still come very close (and should have with decisions) to reaching the playoffs for two consecutive years which is something we haven't done.
Going forward: 1) We know we need more props and there is no doubt the coaching staff know this too. Let's see what recruits done. 2) We need to start identifying replacements for ageing players. I don't mean Dixon and Sidlow but key players, such as Sneyd and Watkins. I think Watkins has another couple of years in tha tank but we don't have youth coming through so need to look at other academies for players we can get into our system a year before they are needed as FT players. Sneyd is harder to replace as number 7s don't grow on trees. An NRL backup player may be the best to target. We need to be watching and evaluating those competitions. Michael Dobson is a prime example from the past. Lachlan Lam more recently. 3) We need to improve our discipline. 4) There need to be a focus on doing the little things correctly. Things like not playing the ball correctly should not be happening. I know it's impossible to eliminate entirely but these type of 'dumb' errors have happened far too often this season. 5) Out attacking structure just hadn't been right this year. I think we miss Orr. Passing has been off and the depth of players or width seems to have been off too. We need to work on timing. Also, we need our forwards passing a bit more often as they hit the line.

I am usually cautious at the beginning of each season. If I had known at the start of the year we would be in with a chance of the playoffs with two games to go and be well clear of the relegation battle, I would have been delighted.
In my view we have had another good season with everything our club faces. A huge thanks from me to our players, coaches and admin. Thanks for all your efforts and best wishes to all those leaving the club.

Did anyone else get a parking ticket last night for parking on the new road ? The council is a joke people have been parking there all season and they wait until the last game to enforce the restriction.
Parking needs to be sorted if the stadium ever gets into the control of the club.

Wakey fans think Eseh is off to Saints.

Disappointed not to be in the six. But a win last night, and a Wire loss, would have meant an away game against Catalan next week. Doubt we would have got much out of that. Players can now have a good off season without most of the squad being involved in the World Cup like last year. Let's hope we get some good signings and hit next season fresh and ready to go. And we finished above Leeds and Huddersfield!

Poor finish to a poor season.
The team has gone backwards this year, which is disappointing. Rowley isn't under any pressure, but has to get recruitment right in off season and get us on the front foot again. Otherwise questions will start being asked. Am not bothered if he comes across as a nice bloke or well on TV. I want to see him and the coaching staff evolve and learn from their mistakes. I think they can and I think if recruitment rumors this year are correct we appear to be looking at younger players which is good. So with no world cup and a full pre season, over to you mr Rowley. Move us forward

They’re both good forwards but personally I’d rather a string runner to get us on the front foot.

We obviously need some larger bodies available, but I would agree that a strong running second row should be a priority. Can’t see us moving away from a mobile(ish) pack, as opposed to monsters, a line breaker would ease the pressure on the halves and the backs

The council is a joke people have been parking there all season and they wait until the last game to enforce the restriction. Parking needs to be sorted if the stadium ever gets into the control of the club. A few weeks ago warning notices were placed on all the vehicles that were parked on the road, which has been designated as a clearway ,these notices clearly stated that they were a warning to people not to park on that road and that any future vehicles that were parked on that stretch would be ticketed. On the stadium parking, once control of the stadium is finally settled the pricing structure and ingress and egress to/from the stadium should be reviewed, with a view to having reasonable parking prices and and more fluid and easy stress free way of getting out of the carparks.,

There's no way we should be signing a SR over a Prop. Give me Whitebread over Roumanos every day. We have Watkins, Stone, and Wright under contract at SR and player in the SR tend to play 80 minutes. A SR would push one of Wright (who I think should start) or Stone out of the team while there is clearly a vacant spot (or three) at prop. Right now we have Singleton, King (penalty machine), and Ormondroyd (seems to have been out of favour at time this year). Gerrard is a LF come Prop hybrid. Hellewell is a back rower. Wright is a back rower. Sidlow needs to be moved on as we can't carry players who are always injured, our squad is too small. Partington is a LF and not a prop.

I agree about size, I used to love playing behind a proper big bopper or two. And I would say the difference overall this season as opposed to last was a drop off in effectiveness of the pack. But I’m not sure we can attract or afford the type of mobile, extra minutes prop we might want. Big Brad is a good option for us I think, aggressive & powerful if not particularly mobile. So if we have to go for that type/level/wage for a prop, I think we could make it work as long as we had another running second row… a (younger) McQueen style line breaker or the like.

Our squad is too small, but we can’t keep asking the same back row forwards to come back week after week, playing 80, because they end up dead on their feet like the last 4 weeks. I don’t think we can attract top quality props as they are currently a bit thin on the ground, a solid pack with some line breakers would be the option to me. We certainly all agree we are short on power!
